Fostering worldwide interoperability 2 Geneva, July 2009 Standardization about Home Networking (HN) in Japan Now on initial stage of standardization QoS: Investigated several existing recommendations Data Model: Analyzed dependencies on applications Operation: Analyzed the functional requirement Research: Applications realized in NGN Research the physical interface including 802.XX, access point base station(Femto) and ZigBee. Plan to submit proposal to ITU-T SG15, SG16,etc. Cooperation with the related SDOs and Fora ITU-T, HGI, BB-Forum, DLNA, UPnP, etc. Cooperation in Japan Next Generation IP Network Promotion Forum in Japan: Home Network WG: Research technical demands HATS[1] in Japan Established new WG for interconnection verification Highlight of Current Activities Note[1]: Non profit organizations for inter-operability

Fostering worldwide interoperability 3 Geneva, July 2009 Architectures have been proposed by several bodies such as ITU and Fora. But there are no consistent suite of Recommendations from WAN to HN dealing with the following items. Maintenance (In case of the problems or failure has occurred) Device setting Device composition confirmation In Layer 2/3, there are many candidate protocols. But for the management of home device, some modification will be required. Isn't cooperation necessary on this respect among PSOs? Strategic Direction

Fostering worldwide interoperability 4 Geneva, July 2009 Conduct systematic technical test composed of WAN, Access, Home-GW, and Intra-HN in close cooperation with Fora in Japan. Operation from WAN to HN Energy saving in the HN Home Security Cable application Confirm total interoperability. Examination of device list in HN Examination of a model in HN Cooperation items with other standardization bodies Data models Appliance device control (TV etc.) Challenges

Fostering worldwide interoperability 5 Geneva, July 2009 Define the control and operation specifications for related use cases. NGN application Contents transmission/reception Click to Call Multi-media communication Etc. Network consumer electronic devices management Maintenance Device setting Device composition confirmation Confirm total interoperability. WAN to HN operational interoperability test in HATS Next Steps/Actions
