 Address Change-1 Week- Sticker  Name Change-2 Weeks  Out of State 60 Days  New Drivers must complete the GDL ( Graduated Driver’s License) Program

 Digital Driver’s License – Probationary = Vertical Basic = Horizontal  14-ID Card  Basic, Probationary, Motorcycle, Probationary Motorcycle, Boat, CDL, Moped, Agric.  Red Sticker Top Left Corners-Kyleigh’s Law

 All motorists must display  Proof of Address  Proof of Social Security #  Primary Document & Secondary Document

 At least one Primary Document – 4 points  Secondary Documents- 3, 2, 1 Points  Must have Proof of Address & Social Security

 Started in 2001  Started to prepare young driver and introduce them slowly  Creates a minimum age for a basic driver’s license  $100 fine & suspension of license if failure to follow restrictions  3 Roads: Early Bird, Young Adult, & Adult

 STEP 1: Get a Special Learner’s Permit  Must be at least 16 years old  Must have parental/guardian signed consent  Must be enrolled in approved behind-the-wheel training course NJDOE or commercial driving school  An approved instructor must purchase the permit  Must pay required fee  Must pass knowledge (80%) and vision tests (20/50)

 Step 2: Practice with an adult supervisor  Must observe special learner’s permit restrictions  Must have permit for at least 6 months  Permit validated by MVC

 Step 3: Get a Probationary License  Must complete the 6 hours without suspensions or postponements  Must pass MVC road test  Must be at least 17 years of age

 Step 4: With a Probationary Driver’s License  Must practice unsupervised driving for at least one year  Must follow probationary license restrictions

 Step 5: Get the Basic Driver’s License  Must be at least 18 years old  Must have completed one year unsupervised driving with probationary license  Pay required fee  18 Provisional License

 Step 1: Get an Examination Permit  Must Pass MVC Knowledge and Vision Test  Must be at least 17 years  Pay Required Fee  If under 18 must obtain Parents/Guardian Surgery

 Step 2: Practice Supervised Driving  Must practice with a supervising adult  Must practice at least 6 months  Must observe examination-permit restrictions

 Step 3: Get a Probationary License  Must complete 6 months of supervised  Pass Road MVC Tests

 Step 4: Practice Unsupervised Driving  Must practice unsupervised for at least one year  Must follow probationary driver’s license restrictions

 Step 5: Get the Basic Driver’s License  Must be at least 18 years old  Must have completed at least one year of unsupervised driving  Must pay the required fee

 Step 1: Get an Examination Permit  Must be at least 21 years old  Must pay required fee  Must pass NJ MVC Knowledge and Vision Tests

 16 Years old-No Suspension Status  Parental/Guardian Signature  Pass Written/Knowledge Test  An approved 6 hours of Behind the Wheel Driving School-Dual Controlled Car  Permit valid for Two Years  6 Points

 No driving between 11:01 P.M. & 5:00 A.M.  No cell phones or handheld devices  Permit holder must be accompanied in the front seat by someone at least 21 years old with 3 years driving experience with valid NJ Driver’s License  Limited to any parent, guardian, or dependent and one other person only  Must display decals  Seatbelts

 At least 17 and no suspension status  Parental/Guardian Signature  Do not need instructor to purchase nor a behind the wheel driving school  Pass knowledge/vision test  Valid for 2 Years  Both Special and Examination violations fall with driver’s and supervisor

 No driving between 11:01 P.M. and 5:00 P.M.  NO cell phones or handheld devices  Front Seat 21 Year old with Basic License 3 years driving experience  Passengers are limited to dependents of the permit holder and one additional person, unless accompanied by parent/guardian  Seatbelts  GDL Decal  *If permit or probationary license holder is 21 or older no restrictions apply.

 Earned after a 6 or 3 months of suspension free, supervised driving regardless of age  Must pass MVC Road Test  After one year must apply for Basic Driver’s License otherwise still fall under restrictions

 No driving between 11:00 P.M. and 5:00 A.M.  No cell phones or handheld devices  Passengers are limited to dependents on license holder and one additional person, unless accompanied by parent/guardian  Seatbelts  GDL Decals

 Under 21 and have a permit or probationary license, Must Display  Top Left Corner  Issued for $4  Every Car

 Exemptions for under 21 years of age are as follows:  Employment  Religion  Must have proof; Written Verification with Official Letterhead with signature of leader with contact information

 Must be at least 14  Voluntarily submit and maintain emergency contact information through the MVC  Used in severe accidents

 Optional  Must be 18 years of age  Used for transplants and medical research  Designated on license or identification card  Register on-line or in person at MVC
