Funding Evidence Based Programs

The world according to ME

Does funding mean sustainability ? Does sustainability mean funding?

Sustainability Named One of ‘Jargoniest Jargon’ Words of 2014 by Ad Age new normal visionary think outside the box innovate at the end of the day 360 approach

Up and coming Jargon open the kimono all the way to bright choiceful touchpoints authentic She was a visionary who thought outside the box and used a 360 degree approach to innovate and assess the new normal. With authentic leadership she made choiceful decisions about client touchpoints and took the campaign all the way to bright. At the end of the day, it was never a problem to open the kimono and reveal the organization’s policies and methods.

I think that the word sustainability is hamstrung by its misuse rather than its overuse. What it needs is a lot more words - perhaps an entire language - to represent all of the concepts, ideas, categories, approaches and disciplines that this one overused word has been burdened with carrying. -Brian Solis

Sustainability Used properly, describes practices through which something can grow without creating a fatal drain on resources. Sustainability happens… when project/program is institutionalized either through recurring budget or policy.

Population health improvement is a long, winding process whose ultimate benefits may take decades to quantify. A sustained problem needs a sustained approach. Funding a project or planning a movement?

Do we need it? Can we do it? Can we sell it? ASK Now what? So what?

Four major sources of grants Foundations Corporations Individuals Government

Eight areas that grant makers judge (today) The need for your services The clients you serve Qualifications and experience Program’s benefit to the community (outcome becomes a community asset) Soundness of investment in you Proof that you are a good funding partner Do you have evidence your community needs you What evaluation system are you using?

Social Media Everything begins with a search YouTube and Facebook are search engines

How are your Social Objects? Social objects are: Videos on YouTube Events in Upcoming or Plancast Updates on Facebook Reviews on Angie’s List or Yelp Thoughts shared in the comment section of a blog or the post itself “Like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter” – you’re now in the business of creating and distributing social objects.

Social Media Optimization (SMO) The distribution of social objects and their ability to rise to the top of any related search query, where and when it is performed.

PR Not Press Release Not Public Relations People and Relationships People…real human beings Relationships…the idea we can do more together than alone

A word about ‘Scale’ Today scale means BIG Tomorrow scale means NETWORKED

-a soft spot for buzzwords -a disposition to use buzzwords just heard -desire for the ‘latest thing’ -tendency to believe the hype -lack of interest in research or first hand experience

What does it mean? Shiny objects may seem like they can do everything but in the grand scheme of things they can do nothing at all. Deliver Value

Crowdfunding Straight donation or reward donation Must have compelling story Highly dependent on social capital Tax benefit to donors Best efforts plan social media and PR ahead Successful crowdfunding example: Parkinson’s. We’re in This Together Venture capitalist Bill Draper vowed to match every contribution up to $100,000 Benefits of crowdfunding generate buzz grow network engage supporters attract corporate attention

Promote success not problems Demonstrate impact Showcase your network Clearly define purpose and outcomes Develop PR
