3 Objectives 1.Discuss the ACPE /NABP CPE tracking system. 2. Utilize the P.L.A.N database to find specific activities. 3. Discuss recent continuing education requirement changes by state boards of pharmacy.

4 CPE Monitor

A national, e-system currently under collaborative development by National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) and Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) to store and authenticate data for completed CPE units for both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. 5

6 Overview Pharmacists & technicians create their e- profile and are assigned an ID CE participants provide ID and DOB in MMDD when claiming credit Providers will utilize participants information to submit credit and other information to CPE Monitor State boards will use CPE Monitor to verify requirements for re-licensure

9 Challenges for Pharmacists Complete online e-profile Remember ID Verify CE credits submitted by providers Effective July 1, 2011, providers will no longer be able to offer partial credit for CPE activities.

10 Timeline Now until fall/winter 2011 is the pilot period Winter 2011/early 2012 is full system implementation by all providers

11 Take Home Points It is the responsibility of the CE participant to obtain & submit the correct information to the provider Pharmacists & technicians will be responsible to verify the CPE credits they earned have been properly recorded No longer be able to claim partial credit for CPE activities 11

15 State Requirements Recently many states have changed or plan to change their license renewal requirements for continuing education DC requires 10 “live” hours, 2 hours in medication errors and 2 hours in HIV Michigan requires 1 hour of pain management and no less than 10 “live” hours South Carolina requires 6 hours of “live” and half of those hours must be in drug therapy or patient management 15

18 Universal Activity Number (UAN) A Universal Activity Number is an identification number which is assigned to each new continuing pharmacy education activity developed, or cosponsored, by an ACPE-accredited provider. 18

20 Your CPD QUESTION: How do you find CPE activities? ANSWER: There are several ways to find CPE activities and the Pharmacists Learning Assistance Network (P.L.A.N.®) is one option. 20

21 What is P.L.A.N.? The Pharmacists Learning Assistance Network (P.L.A.N.®) is a continuing pharmacy education service provided to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians through the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). 21
