Five Major Functions of Skeleton
JOINTS OF THE HUMAN BODY
Skeletal System.
What holds your joints together and keeps them connected as you move? Bones come together at joints. Joints are wrapped with ligaments that hold the joint.

The Skeletal System Part 2: joints, ligaments, cartilage and tendons.
The Skeletal System Skeleton composed of many different tissues: cartilage, bone tissue, epithelium, nerve, blood forming tissue, adipose, and dense connective.
 A joint is where two or more bones meet. There are different types of joints. The different types of joints allow the body to move in different directions.
Human Skeletal System Types of Joints. Fibrous Joints (Immovable) Fibrous joints connect bones without allowing any movement. Fibrous joints connect bones.

Bones & Muscles. How many bones does the human skeleton contain?
Joints of the Body. Connective Tissue Is classed as soft tissue Is flexible (to a degree) CARTILAGE Is only slightly elastic Coats the ends of bones in.

Joints A joint, or articulation, is the place where two bones come together.  Fibrous- Immovable; connect bones, no movement. (skull and pelvis).  Cartilaginous-

Skeletal System Notes. Your body has two organ systems that work together to provide support & help you move– the skeletal system & the muscular system.
Recap last lesson… 1)What are the 5 functions of the skeleton? 2)List the 2 bones in the lower leg. 3)List all the bones in your arm. 4)List all the bones.
OBJECTIVES Discuss the five functions of the skeletal system. Describe the structure of a bone.
The Skeletal System. What is a Bone? The skeletal system is made up of the bones and cartilage that forms the framework of your body. The skeletal system.
Aim: How is the human skeletal system organized?.
Aim: How is the human skeletal system organized?
Skeletal System Bone formation: bones start as cartilage and slowly it is replaced by bone.
STANDARD: : Describe the structure of a joint and the types of joints in the human skeleton.

Skeletal System

Fun Facts Babies have more bones than adults! Both Humans and giraffes have the same amount of bones in their necks. Human thigh bones are stronger than concrete. Your ribs move about 5 million times a year, everytime you breathe! One quarter of the bones in your body, are in your feet!

Functions Support the body Protect organs Allow movement Store minerals Blood cell formation

Types of Joints Immovable Slightly movable Freely movable We have over 230 moveable and semi-movable joints in our body.

Immovable Joints Joints connect bones without allowing any movement. Skull and Pelvis

Slightly Movable The bones are attached by cartilage. These joints allow for a little movement. Spine and Ribs

Freely movable Cavities between bones are filled with synovial fluid. This fluid helps lubricate and protect the bones. Ball and Socket Hinge Pivot Saddle

Ball and Socket Hips Shoulders They allow you to swing your arms and legs in many different directions

Hinge Open and close like a door Elbow and knee Animation

Pivot Rotation of one bone around another Neck and Elbow

Saddle This type of joint allows for back and forth and side to side motion but limited rotation. Thumb

If you are "double-jointed", it just means that you have extra long ligaments in your joints and can bend them farther than usual.
