To Infinity and Beyond :Launching a New Generation of Aerospace Lisa Bacon Program Manager, AIAA STEM K-12 Outreach

2 AIAA Perspective on the Future Workforce Students do not fully understand the Whats In It for Me? when studying math and science Careers in various disciplines of the aerospace industry are not commonly known The jobs that these students will have when they are out of college do not exist today

AIAA as a Resource for Educators Educators are one of the biggest influences on students choices Helping an educator understand the aerospace career path as a why for math and science will help them persuade their students to consider Many professionals say that their career choice was influenced by a grade school teachers passion about a subject An educators reluctance about math and science may sway a student away from those subjects 3

AIAA as a Resource for Educators Free lifetime AIAA Educator Associate membership One-time $200 AIAA Foundation Classroom Grant On-line resources: publications and curriculum Discounts on books and publications Local network of professionals to call upon for Career Days, mentoring and expert advice Teacher workshops 4

Teaching Engineers to be Educators Engineers as Educators Workshop AIAA is using our technical conferences to train aerospace professionals to interact with teachers and students by teaching them how to construct grade-level appropriate presentations and do hands- on activities that will engage to the student and teacher to learn more about the industry 7

AIAAs Contribution to the Next Generation By approaching the issue from three branches, the teacher, the student and the aerospace professional, we believe that we can leverage our resources to portray aerospace as an exciting, innovative, creative industry with a wealth of career choices. 8
