“Creating A More Educated Georgia” Transitioning to Expectations for the New Institution –Establish a joint task force to develop/revise expectations for the new, consolidated institution Also address processes to be used by new institution for all faculty evaluations –Include campus appeals process Also address a new process for faculty appointments –Will need to be approved by governance processes at each institution to produce at the SACS site visit in Spring 2013 to comply with CS – “document published consolidated policies for the appointment, employment, and evaluation of all personnel” –Will be in effect for all reviews in Includes: annual reviews, pre-tenure reviews/tenure & promotion/post-tenure 3

“Creating A More Educated Georgia” Challenges with Implementing New Performance Expectations New expectations must be aligned with new institutional mission –Process is analogous to any institution with a changing mission –Faculty work must advance new mission (grandfathering to old expectations is not allowable) Time Line Faculty & Administrator Understanding of Expectations –Workshops for faculty portfolio preparation –Workshops for reviewers/evaluators/administrators 4

“Creating A More Educated Georgia” Implementing New Performance Expectations –New expectations and process in effect for Fall 2013 –Review committees should include faculty representatives institution-wide –Establish a new T&P Oversight Committee to address any problems or issues that arise out of the review process Make recommendations for changes in next year’s review ( ) Suggest keeping the Oversight Committee in place for a few years 5

“Creating A More Educated Georgia” Consolidating Grievance Processes Establish task force to consolidate faculty grievance processes –Find similar processes across existing campuses and use what has worked well to enhance the new process –Ensure the new process will work for all faculty from the previously separate institutions –Consult AAUP shared governance resources 7

“Creating A More Educated Georgia” Institutional Governance –Board Policy on institutional governance –Establish joint task force to merge/integrate all documents and processes related to shared governance Institutional statutes & bylaws Governance bodies (e.g., Senates, Councils, etc.) Faculty handbooks –Should include new performance expectations and process from other task force Institutional Committees Representation on System Committees 8

“Creating A More Educated Georgia” Academic Unit Organization Guiding principles: –Align academic units with new mission and eliminate/revise units accordingly –Avoid duplication of units and administrative heads –Align for the future (e.g., are new colleges or divisions needed?) –Cost savings is a central goal Organizational chart, all administrative appointments, and faculty roster needed for the Prospectus due in October and for the site visit in Spring
