QUALITY: Promotes quality of product, service and systems as a philosophy to improve business performance. Quality refers to “fitness for purpose” but is often used in the sense of reliable compliance with standards. It is often associated with the concept of “reliability”.

Recommendation Unify the various bodies under SAQI’s umbrella. Focus on SMMEs - VERY IMPORTANT. Work with other SQAM organisations.

SQAM forum to be formed to do the following: Develop a National Quality Strategy and Policy considering the following: Need to establish a Quality culture in South Africa.

Need to raise the level of awareness on the importance and benefits of quality at all levels of society and industry. Need to ensure that the education and training system within South Africa has an appropriate focus on the achievement of quality in society and industry.

Need to raise the quality of products, processes and organisations to level of international competitors. Need to build capacity in organisations to implement quality initiatives. Need for supply-side to incentive to SMMEs.

Ensure SMME promotion does not compromise quality principles. The use of government procurement to enhance quality within organisations. Need to recognise that better informed consumers promote quality through better informed choices.

Need to design and implement a “best practice” quality system which will facilitate the interface between government, industry, service providers and other stakeholders.

SAQI’s Vision To be the driver of Quality contributing towards the global competitiveness of the South African economy and the region as a whole.

SAQI’s Mission is to Create an awareness of quality Play a leading role in the establishment, maintenance ad improvement of the National Quality System and to actively promote its realization. To facilitate the integrated quality management systems for large, medium, small and micro businesses in support of national priorities.

To advance the theory and practice of quality in education, training and development. To instill the value and importance of service quality in everybody and throughout enterprise. Represent South African Quality in the region and abroad.

Objectives SAQI’s objectives are to be the national body to: Study, understand and define what’s needed to support and make the National Quality System (NQS) effective; Promote and establish awareness and understanding of the value and importance of Quality in all fields of human endeavour;

Function as the umbrella body that co-ordinates and supports the activities of Quality-promoting organisations; Communicate on Quality matters between role-players in the NQS; Represent South African Quality internationally; Facilitate the transfer of Quality technologies and methodologies; Manage SAQI effectively and efficiently.

Call to Quality Practising quality principles greatly improves the performance of individuals and organisations. Practising continuous quality improvement the whole year round is one of the most positive habits South Africans can apply to their daily lives, at work, in their families, communities and as consumers.
