Why are input devices useful? By: Gaby, Pili and Leopi

What makes an input device useful?  an input device needs an application that create value of the data from the input device  the input device is a way to get information in to the application that can use this information and makes the input device useful  Is an easy and faster way of collecting data  Is a tool that can be used for connectivity and integration of data from different sources

Examples of useful input devices  GPS  RFID  Voice recognition  Handwriting recognition  Medical devices

GPS Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based global navigation satellite system that provides location and time information in all weather and at all times. A GPS can be used for  Determine ambulance, fire truck or police car nearest to an emergency  Locate lost people that has a cellular phone with gps included  Locate stolen vehicles or boats  Keep track of trucks, public transportation and other vehicles to use them in a more environmental way  And, of course, find the nearest and fastest way to your destination

RFID RFID (Radio-frequency identification) is a technology that can read RFID tags within a couple of meters RFID can be used for  Identify goods in a truck without opening it  Human identification by attaching a RFID tag at a badge  Keep track of products in their life cycle  Count and identify cattle that are out free on the pasture

Voice Recognition Voice recognition or Speech recognition converts spoken words to text. Voice Recognition can be used for  Help people with physical disabilities that has problem using a standard keyboard or mouse effectively  Help students who have learning disabilities that interfere with their ability to spell and write  Make interaction with telephone systems more effective and faster (but it can be annoying if it doesn’t work properly…)

On-Line Handwriting Recognition Handwriting recognition is the ability of a computer to receive and interpret intelligible handwritten input Handwriting Recognition can be used for  Sign of deliveries on-line on a handheld device instead of using paper  Verify a signature directly on-line  Input text into a computer or a handheld device using handwriting which can be more efficient  Doctors using a tablet computer directly entering handwritten text into the system

Medical Devices A medical device is a product which is used for medical purposes Medical Devices can be used for  Measuring the health status of a sick person  Collect different kind of information to make a fast analysis  Measure heart or blood pressure  Determine dose of medication  And much much more…..

Some useful areas  Handicap  Security  Location  Research  Logistics  Production  Medical  Communication  Education
