County of Fairfax, Virginia Project Selection Department of Transportation 7 Priority for project funding is based on tier one projects of the ten- year plan New project recommendations are based on the following criteria: –Identifying projects for federal funds available of the RMAG and TMSAMS efforts (prioritization done through citizen communities with staff input) –Top Tysons Roadway projects –Generally serving to improve safety, increase capacity, relieve congestion, provide critical connections, and offer alternative travel modes.

County of Fairfax, Virginia Benefit-Cost Analysis (BCA) Next Steps Department of Transportation 9 Staff is working to incorporate the use of BCAs into consideration for countywide projects receiving new funding Consultant support is being sought for the development of a BCA modeling application –The application will be applicable to all types of multi-modal projects, including roadway widening, intersection improvements, interchange improvements, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, park-and-ride facilities, etc. –Tailored to the needs of Fairfax County Estimated completion of the BCA tool is Fall 2012
