B EING A LOVING P EDIATRIC N URSE ! By: Catherine Bland

P EDIATRIC N URSE (: Has many responsibilities including examining the child’s history, take X-rays, make diagnoses if they are not clear you have to run tests. And makes the decision if the child is able to go home. You have to be extremely loving towards children and gentle to their emotions and bodies. The salary definitely depends on your experience and degree. If you have a Bachelor of Science degree you would be making around 28,000 to start but with experience could earn 88,000 a year.

T HE EDUCATION REQUIRED TO BECOME A PEDIATRIC NURSE ! Certified pediatric nurses are required to earn a general nursing degree first. This can be done in one of three ways, as is the case with all registered nurses. First, students can earn their Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing which combines a nursing curriculum with general education courses. Second, students can earn their nursing degree at the associate's degree level. This generally takes 2-3 years and includes classes like medical terminology, anatomy, nursing topics and biology. Finally, diploma degrees take three years and are conducted within hospitals. After receiving either of these degrees, graduates can be licensed as a registered nurse.

W ARDROBE OF PEDIATRIC NURSES ! Many locations ask the pediatric nurses to wear scrubs. A scrubs uniform typically consists of a light weight, short-sleeved shirt and pants. Many employers require all white shoes, but others are less strict. you can’t wear any dangling jewelry and hair has to be tied back at all times. Also colors and prints on uniform is usually necessary for spotting pediatric nurses and the children.

S CHEDULE OF HOURS POSSIBLE IN THIS JOB ! A pediatric nurse can either work a 12 hour shift or an 8 hour. 8 hour shift is typically from 7am-3pm, 3pm- 11pm,11pm-7am 12 hour shift is typically from 7am-7pm & 7pm- 7am It depends on if you make your schedule or not. Sometimes you can choose to work nights to get better pay.

W HAT KIND OF PERSON LIKES THIS JOB ? The biggest is loving children, if you don’t then what’s the point? Another is being very caring and gentle! All around outgoing and bubbly could be benefitting too towards the children If you’re the type that can’t handle having a great attitude then this isn’t for you! People who usually love this job are very good with children and love to make them happy!
