FROM STRATEGY TO REALITY BEGINNING OUR DIGITAL JOURNEY

Who are we? BCITO are the largest provider of construction trade apprenticeships in New Zealand. Appointed by the government to develop and implement industry qualifications for the building and construction sector. Our vision is to build building professionals for the future, today. We’re passionate about leading the construction industry to create the best skilled people for tomorrow.

WHO ARE WE? We are quite literally building the people who are building the future of New Zealand...

WHO ARE WE?

WHY DID THIS JOURNEY START? Against a background of much change in the global and New Zealand economies and environments, some 3 years ago the BCITO planted a small digital seed when we decided to review: how we operated how we communicated with our customers...the apprentices... How we supported them...And could we do these things better?

THE CREATION OF THE VISION... WHY DO THIS? The questions we asked ourselves: Can we simplify things for our customers? Can we make it easier to access to our services? Can we better manage our learning resources? Can we create a ‘one source of truth’ centralised information resource for our team and customers?

The questions we asked ourselves: Can we create real communities of learning? Can we be more ‘in sync’ with the modern day learner? Can we really improve the learner experience? Can we make it easier for employers, apprentices and the wider industry to do business with us? Can we create a real community of excellence? THE CREATION OF THE VISION... WHY DO THIS?

Define the complete picture Us (what and how do we need to change) Our customers (what are their needs and capabilities) Find out where it is ‘hurting’ What does the customer need? Are we delivering real value to them? WHERE TO BEGIN?

What are our priorities? What changes will create real value?.....For our apprentices.....For our employers.....For our team? WHERE TO BEGIN?

FIRST MOVES Over 110 people consulted across the country, from Kerikeri to Invercargill groups in f2f discussions – Training Advisors, Apprentices, Employers, Skills Brokers, Support Team and Board members 5. What’s important to you? What do you need from a digital solution? What do you want it to feel like? How do you want it to improve your day-to-day? 1. Leadership team created strategic priorities which they wanted key stakeholders to review 4. All asked the same set of questions, to ensure all those being consulted could feed into the end results

WE REALISED OUR JOURNEY IS ABOUT Moving from this...through this...to this...

TO HELP US DECIDE WHAT TO FOCUS OUR EFFORTS ON WE IDENTIFIED THE FOLLOWING KEY BENEFIT AREAS... Improved Educational Experience targeted and richer resources to engage apprentices with differing learning needs enabling apprentice progress visibility for Training Advisors and employers enabling live evidence gathering opportunities gap identification - widen work experience opportunities more regular contact points improved mentoring from Training Advisors. Easier to do Business With Building on BCITO’s position as Trusted Advisor to the construction industry, improvements through the adoption of systems which enhance learning, enable access to industry-relevant information and customer engagement whilst making it easier for learners and employers to do business, through tools such as customer portals and online payment systems. This will lead to increased retention and success rates for our apprentices, which in turn leading to reduced debtors and associated admin costs. Building Communities Research shows that building communities around learning delivery, reinforces and aligns with the benefits uncovered by BCITO such as increased engagement, sign-ups/retentions and reputation.

CREATING OUR PLAN..... Implementation plan - Overview

CREATING OUR PLAN...
