Vocabulary Review Microscopes

Allows you to view the image on the stage and contains the ocular lens (10X) Eyepiece

This part holds the objective lenses and is able to rotate to change magnification Nosepiece

These are found on the nosepiece and range from low to high power Objective lenses

These are used to hold a slide in place on the stage Stage clips

Projects light upwards through the diaphragm to allow you to see the specimen Light Source

This part on the side of the microscope is used to support it when it is carried Arm

This part moves the stage up and down to help you get the specimen into view – NEVER USE ON HIGH POWER!!!!!!! Coarse Adjustment

This part moves the stage slightly to help you sharpen your view of the specimen – use with all lenses!! Fine Adjustment

This part of the microscope helps you adjust the amount of light that reaches the specimen Diaphragm

The bottom part of the microscope Base

Part of the microscope that supports the slide that is being viewed Stage

Name for the small plastic or glass piece that is used to cover a water drop and specimen on a slide Cover slip

Small glass plate on which specimens are placed for viewing Slide

Refers to the degree of magnification for a lens Power

The number of times the specimen is enlarged Magnification

A microscope with two lenses Compound

Sharpness of an image (decrease with magnification) Resolution

Area visible when looking through the eyepiece Field of View

Ability to see layers in the field of view Depth of field

Distance between cover slip and lens Working Distance

Total magnification when using scanning power 40X

Total magnification when using low power 100X

Total magnification when using high power 400X
