2 Compound Microscope Parts and Functions
A. Eyepiece/Ocular Lens - begins the magnification by 10x B. Main Tube - holds the eyepiece: hollow tube that light passes through C. Nosepiece - holds the objective lenses D. High power objective lens - magnifies the specimen E. Low power objective lens - magnifies the specimen F. Stage clips - holds the slide in place G. Arm - used to carry microscope H. Stage - holds the slide I. Diaphragm - controls the amount of light coming through stage. J. Coarse adjustment knob - focuses the image on low power K. Light source - lights up the specimen L. Fine adjustment knob - focuses the image on high power M.  On/Off switch - provides power to microscope N. Base - supports the microscope

8 Microscope Rules 1. Always start focus with low power. 2. Always clean lens of microscope with lens paper. 3. Always carry the microscope with two hands: one hand on the arm and the other supporting the base. 4. Always store the microscope with the lowest eye piece objective in place and the stage in the lowest position. 5. Always use the fine adjustment knob to focus on high power, never coarse.
