3 Introduction Information that can not be place on the schedules or drawings is included in the construction specifications These must be carefully written and checked by the contractor, client, and architect

4 Commercial Specifications Specifications are written documents that describe in detail product, material, and workmanship requirements A specification is an exact statement that describes the characteristics of a particular aspect of a project

5 Commercial Specifications MasterFormat is a list of numbers and titles created to organize information into a standard sequence Uniformat is an arrangement of construction information based on physical parts of a facility called systems and assemblies

6 Commercial Specifications “Master List of Numbers and Titles for Construction Industry” organizes construction requirements, products, and activities “Bidding Requirements and Contract Requirements” establishes relationships, processes, and project responsibilities –Uses series zero numbering

7 Commercial Specifications “Facilities and Spaces” and “Systems and Assemblies” use Uniformat “Project Description” gives an introduction to a project and has no letter designation “General” is provided for expansion beyond the building construction
