MicroMouse Planning for Spring 2006 Competition Scott F. Smith Boise State University

What is MicroMouse? Autonomous robot capable of finding its way through is maze in a short time. Teams of 1-5 undergraduate IEEE Student Members (see rules for recent graduates and graduate students). No more than 25cm X 25cm and no more than $500 cost.

A MicroMouse

Another MicroMouse

Yet More MicroMice

MicroMouse Maze 16 X 16 unit squares. Each square is 18cm X 18cm (16.8cm between walls). Walls are 5cm high, red on top, white on sizes (IR reflecting). Floor is black (non IR reflecting). Object is to find 2 X 2 square center.

A MicroMouse Maze

A Mouse in a Maze

The Contest Each mouse gets 10 minutes access to maze. Run clock restarts every time mouse leaves starting square. A run time is recorded from run clock every time mouse enters destination square. If mouse is touched (except at start or finish of access), 30 second penalty attached to all run times. This penalty can only be assessed once.

The Contest Continued All mice which successfully negotiate the maze place higher than those that do not. Mice with faster best run times place higher than those with slower best run times. Mice without run times are ranked by number of squares visited (with no square counted more than twice).

Proposed Area Contest At Spring 2006 Northeast Area 6 meetings. Boise State University has a maze (about 60% done) which can be used. Meeting this afternoon with more details on MicroMouse (video, mouse demo, rules, books, etc.) Prizes TBD.
