Presentation transcript:

RUNNING RIGHT SAFETY MEETING Be Alert, Don’t Get Hurt!!

RUNNING RIGHT Often times, when an accident occurs, it is due to a lack of attention to our work environment and not being focused on what we are doing. The driver of this coal truck received an emergency call to come home while being loaded at the mine. Was his mind on the job?

Sometimes we can create the conditions for an accident to occur and receive injury because we are not mentally prepared to work. It may be due to a problem at home that has to do with sickness of a family member, it may have to do with the death of a family member or some other reason that takes your focus off the job. Two men died because the driver of the 190 ton rock needed a roll of toilet paper. What was he focused on? RUNNING RIGHT

Your “mental mind set” is very important in the work place. In most of our work areas, we have large equipment and small areas for that equipment to operate in. It takes focus to safely operate that equipment. We need your “mental mind set” to be focused on your job for all our employees to have a safe work area. RUNNING RIGHT

Working safely at Alpha Natural Resources is our number one priority. We engineer many good safety enhancements into the equipment and supplies we use, but for you to remain safe in the workplace you must think before you act and take that first step to make safety your responsibility. We provide good equipment and tools to work with; we provide good training to educate you about how to remain safe in the workplace and we will continue to listen to your suggestions on how we can improve by monitoring your safety observation cards. But, at the end of the work shift, if you haven’t complied with required standards and used good common sense, you were jeopardizing your life and future. RUNNING RIGHT

Therefore, when we are performing our jobs, whether it entails operating a drill, a dozer, a rock truck, a front-end loader, loading a shot or any other coal mining task – Think before you act, so hazards won’t be created and make Safety Your Responsibility by being in the right “mental mind set”. Your family and your friends depend on you to work safe and return home. Don’t become a victim of an accident. RUNNING RIGHT

Thank you for your hard work and dedication to safety!! Be Alert, Don’t Get Hurt!!
