A brief overview of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes the Department of English Language and Literature A brief SWOT analysis of our Department The most productive directions for possible future development and some of our strategic goals

The Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Tuzla offers three BA programmes in foreign languages: BA in English language and literature BA in German language and literature BA in Turkish language and literature The common goal of these programmes is to educate foreign language teachers and interpreters. The workload required for these programmes is 240 ECTS points, which corresponds to programme duration of eight semesters.

Strengths staff organization of the Department our commitment to the Departments future progress

Weaknesses lack of institutional/infrastructural support and administrative limitations weak inter-faculty cooperation lack of funds, working space, equipment heavy teaching load

Opportunities establishing a good relationship with key institutions to advance the Department programmes for professional development, seminars, student exchanges, but also staff exchanges obtaining more external funds for the Department engaging in various networking efforts towards qualitative change in higher education, advocacy, policy- making, curriculum development and law reforms on a variety of fronts.

Threats reduced funding caused by the current economic situation decisions harmful for the EL Department doctoral candidates facing uncertain funding, impossible time constraints, and various other obstacles overburdening and inefficient bureaucracy decrease in the need for EL teachers

The most productive directions for possible future development and our strategic goals include: improving the existing programmes developing new and more specialized master programs in Translation FL Teaching Linguistics Literary and Cultural Studies
