In 1769 Captain Cook was given command of the Endeavour and given instruction to set sail for the Pacific in order to study the passage of the planet Venus across the disc of the sun. The true set of instructions concerning the voyage was secret: Cook was to search for the mysterious and elusive southern continent. He was the first European to explore New Zealand, and he eventually did find Australia. Quite an accomplishment for a captain who was just out Chasing Venus. 1.Three-vineyard blend - small lot production Racetrack Vineyard: herbal, mown grass aromas Griggs Vineyard: loads of grapefruit and acidity Comely Bank: a wonderful combination of gooseberry and herbs 2.Made dry with plenty of acidity for a clean, crisp finish 3.Catchy story with a great icon: a brand people remember 4.Highly rated: 89 Wine Advocate, 91 Wine Library TV 5.Not overexposed: offers accounts something new without being undercut on price 6.Hit category with double digit growth 7.Small-production Marlborough Pinot Gris also available KEY BRAND POINTS

2009 CHASING VENUS MARLBOROUGH, NEW ZEALAND Aggressively Marlborough with loads of acidity, pungent grapefruit and melon aromas framed by pronounced gooseberry flavors. Chasing Venus wines are produced from grapes grown on small family farms in the acclaimed Marlborough appellation. The wines are highly aromatic with exceptional varietal character. Marlborough owes much of its reputation for world-class wines to the climate. It is one of New Zealand’s sunniest and driest regions, as mountain ranges block the rains. Yet with the ocean nearby, Marlborough is rarely hot, so the grapes ripen slowly, developing both vibrant fruit flavors and deliciously crisp acidity. Blend: 100% Sauvignon Blanc Vineyards: Comely Bank, Griggs, Beacon Hill Fermentation: 100% cold fermented, stainless steel Alcohol: 13% Production: 4,600 cases
