Welcome! This slide show is an introduction to the policies, procedures, and resources of the EHS Media Center. We hope that you will find it helpful. Please ask any media staff member whenever you need assistance using our media center.

Find A Book From the Media Center Website, click on EHS Catalog Lookup listed under Online Resources. Click on the Catalog tab and search by: Author Title Subject Keyword Series

To Access Your Catalog Rights Click on Login (top right) Type in your Windows user name and password

To Access the Catalog Via Windows Click on Start Point to Programs Point to Media Center Point to Library Catalog Select Catalog Lookup There is another way to access the EHS Catalog Lookup:

Check it Out! Check out at the Main Desk Use ID Card or student number to check out books Renew books up to three times Media Center MaterialLength of Check Out Books14 days Magazines (old) 3 days Reference Books (Some – Not all)Overnight

Limit Students are allowed to have five items checked out at a time.

Returning Books Return or renew your library book by the “due” date. Students receive due date notices –During check out –During first period class Return your library book to the book drop in the Main Desk (Do not leave it on top of desk!)

Just Like Public Libraries Overdue fines are charged for books that are not returned on time. (10¢ per day) Students with fines and/or overdue books lose the privilege to check out more materials. (Records and textbooks are held until cleared.) The maximum overdue fine is $5.00.

If You Lose A Book Notify the media center staff: –We will mark the book lost –The fine will not increase You will be charged: –Replacement price of book –Overdue fine if applicable –Handling charge

When a Lost Book Returns Refunds are given for lost materials that have been paid for and later returned. Refunds are not given for overdue fines.

Student Passes to MC Students coming from a classroom must have: –An official media center pass signed by the classroom teacher –An assignment from the classroom teacher Students coming from lunch should have –A lunch pass signed by the media staff –Lunch passes are available in the media center starting at 7:00 A.M.

Sign In and Sign Out Use the laptop at the Circulation Desk to sign in and out. Type in your student ID number and press enter. Click on the purpose for your visit.

Food and Drink Food and drink are not allowed in the media center.

Making Photocopies Students may use the photocopy machine. Coin box is attached to the photocopier. Copies are 10¢ each.

Academic Lab Computers The Academic Lab is located next door. This Lab is reserved for students under direct teacher supervision. Students on passes to the Media Center may not go into the Academic Lab.

Media Center Computers There are 41 computers located in the media center. The computers are to be used for educational tasks. Each computer includes: Microsoft Office Applications Internet Access Educational Databases and Tools

Other Technology 2 B&W Laser Printers 1 Color Laser Printer 1 Scanner Closed Circuit TV *This equipment is available for educational purposes.

Printing in the Media Center Print only school and media center assignments. Printing Costs: Two pages free on B&W printers 3rd -10th B&W pages 10¢ each Color printing 25¢ per page No free color printing *Conserve ink and paper by saving to your home directory in My Documents or using jump drives or CDs.

Internet Policy Internet users must adhere to the Cherokee County Internet Safety User Agreement. Engaging in non- educational activities such as games and personal is not allowed.

Headphones Personal headphones are not allowed. Listening to music on the computers is not allowed. For educational purposes, headphones are available at the Circulation Desk.

Subscription Resources Connect to our information databases and tools via the media center website. GALILEO Georgia’s virtual library provides access to numerous information databases and library catalogs. Some examples are: Encyclopedia Britannica Online Grove Art Online ¡Informe! (Spanish language magazines) Literary Reference Center MAS Ultra (magazine and newspaper articles) NoveList (find new books) SIRS Researcher (critical issues)
