TOPIC Earth & Environmental Science Environmental Science Cleaning Products

QUESTION Out of four cleaners and Taco Sauce, which will clean the best using dirty pennies?

HYPOTHESIS We believe the Clorox will clean the penny the best Cleaning products will clean better than Taco Sauce.

PROCEDURE First we will set up 6 cheese cups and label them. Cup 1-6 that aligns with the cleaners and taco sauce. Then we will tape each penny with 2 inches of tape. After taping the pennies we will measure out the cleaning products and taco sauce for 5 tablespoons and put them into the correct milk cartons. Next we will place each penny in each sup at the same time. We will then start the timer. The pennies will remain in the cups for 10 minutes and we will record our data ant what we see every minute. At 10 minutes we will remove all pennies with gloves on at the same time. The penny will be sat onside of a wash cloth for 6 minutes to dry. After 6 minutes the duct tape will be taken off and we will investigate how each penny looks. Finally we will make a conclusion about our findings.

MATERIALS 6 dirty pennies A measuring cup Royal Oaks School Cleaner Clorox Taco Sauce Masking Tape Table Spoon Small Cups Timer Washcloth/Napkin Gloves

CONCLUSION During our experiment we found that the taco sauce is a better cleaning product than the other cleaning products used. Our hypothesis was incorrect because the taco sauce cleaned the penny the best. This was surprising because we did not know that taco sauce would clean better than Clorox and other products. This is crazy because taco sauce is something that we eat! We think this happens because of the acid in the tomatoes! If we do this project again I would definitely choose taco sauce as the best cleaning product or try to test other objects.
