University of Missouri-Rolla Computing and Information Services 10 Administrative Systems In transition from legacy data systems to PeopleSoft for student information, financial and human resources Faculty often need to use: Student – contact enrollment management offices –Class roll, grades, student recruitment, etc. Financial – contact procurement, finance and sponsored programs offices –Purchasing, accts. payable, grants, etc.

University of Missouri-Rolla Computing and Information Services 11 Internet / Networking Campus connection to the Internet –Via MOREnet (a State consortium) –Two 45mbps lines one carrying commodity Internet + university business + video classes one carrying Internet2 traffic Dial-up – –288 modems – 56K v.90 provided by UMR –local ISPs, phone and cable companies offer high speed, for which UMR supports VPN (virtual private networking) Wireless network – – b IEEE standard, up to 11mbps – Increasing availability on campus

University of Missouri-Rolla Computing and Information Services 14 Funding Faculty development matching funds –New faculty are eligible for 90% funding –Existing faculty are eligible for 30% funding –Either are subject to following limitations: no more than one PC, one laptop and one printer and associated software in a fiscal year a $6,000 cap in a fiscal year Bottom line: have your department’s purchasing person work with Mary Hinze in CIS
