Presentation transcript:

The District adheres to the WIAA handbook with regard to the Philosophy of Scholarship ; however, the District has chosen to implement a more restrictive minimum grade standard to determine athletic/activity eligibility. The District requires that all student athletes must pass all classes in order to be eligible for athletic/activity participation. SCHOLASTIC/ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS 2015 PACIFIC LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 17-3 Overall 13-0 League

Weekly Grade Check A weekly grade check will be implemented to track all student athletes. Each Wednesday at 3 p.m., the Athletic Director shall check all student athletes’ grades. If a student athlete has a failing grade during that time, he/she has until the Friday of that same week to prove to the Athletic Director that he/she is passing the class by submitting a signed document from the teacher verifying a passing grade. WEEKLY MONITORING & ELIGIBILITY

The student athlete will be ineligible for at least the following week and until he/she is passing all classes. (Monday thru Saturday). The student athlete will be reinstated if he/she is passing all classes following the next weekly grade check (must serve at least one week of suspension). The student will be required to attend the equivalent of three (3) half hour study tables the following week. If the student’s failing grade(s) are the result of excused absences, he/she will have the amount of days missed to make up any missed worked as stated in the Academic Handbook. WEEKLY MONITORING: FAILING GRADES

Study table must be completed with an NBHS staff member and must be completed before school, after school, or at lunch. If the student athlete fails to meet study table requirements, he/she will not be able to compete in any contests the following week (Monday thru Saturday). If the student is absent from school at any time during that study table week, it is still his/her responsibility to complete the equivalent assigned study table, and the student athlete will be ineligible to compete until that study table is completed. WEEKLY MONITORING: STUDY TABLE

If a student athlete is placed on study table for three or more consecutive weeks, he/she may not practice and instead must attend study table for one hour each day of the week. After completing the hour of study table, the student athlete may attend practice if the coach allows. If at any time during the season the student athlete does not complete two (2) study table assignments, he/she will be removed from the team (Athletic Director’s discretion). CONSECUTIVE STUDY TABLE OR FAILURE TO ATTEND

In addition, the District will also enforce a more restrictive policy regarding semester grades. At each semester grading period, the Athletic Director shall conduct a grade check for ALL students to determine athletic eligibility as per WIAA policy If a student has a failing grade(s), that student will be placed on academic suspension when he/she begins participating in athletics/activities as per the WIAA handbook. SEMESTER GRADE CHECKS

The following appeal process can only by used by students with one (1) failing semester grade. Students with two (2) or more failing grades cannot appeal as per WIAA policy If a student believes he/she has extenuating circumstances that have impacted his/her ability to meet the minimum standards for athletic/activity eligibility at semester, he/she can request an appeal to the Athletic Eligibility Review Board (Review Board). Eligibility for special education students shall be determined as part of the IEP process. SEMESTER GRADE CHECK APPEAL PROCESS

For the purpose of consistency from sport to sport and to create an overall expectation within the Athletic Department, the following grading process/procedure will be used for athletic participation for summer activities: Students with a failing grade (1) at the beginning of spring/summer practices will be allowed to practice and compete in contests/camps. They will be given probationary status with their eligibility hinging on the posting of semester grades. SUMMER PARTICIPATION: ONE FAILING GRADE

Those students with more than one failing grade will be able to practice, but will be denied eligibility in contests/camps. This restriction/suspension period will take place until the posting of semester grades. SUMMER PARTICIPATION: TWO OR MORE FAILING GRADES

Once semester grades are posted, those students that receive one or more failing grades will be denied participation in summer activities. Students may practice, but no participation in contests/camps will be allowed. If the grade is rectified through summer school, eligibility may be regained. SUMMER PARTICIPATION: POSTED SEMESTER GRADE
