Accountability Framework Student Version MSAD #42 Grades 3-12

Our Vision… The goal of the SAD 42 grading policy is to build a consistent framework and system that supports the learning process, encourages parent involvement and communication, and holds students accountable for their learning.

New Support Pieces There will be a structured lunch work time for students Late work/Redo work—maximum grade of 80 Academic Academy—first timers do not need to stay for entire eligibility period if they get their work caught up or completed; repeat attendees will stay for the entire period Academic Academy—students will have the opportunity to stay only 3 of the 4 nights Eligibility/progress reports will be calculated every 4 ½ weeks.

Student Responsibilities Complete work in a timely manner Be responsible with deadlines and quality of work Be responsible in checking W2S weekly and formulating a plan to improve achievement Be respectful to teachers and classmates Be a good citizen Work hard

Web2School 2013-2014 School year expectations 1.Teachers of grades 3-12 will be expected to update Web2School on a weekly basis (more often, if possible) 2. The following legend must be used by all teachers:  REC (the work has been received, but not graded)  0 (the use of a zero is only for work not received)  ABS (absent and not able to hand in work, which will be changed to a zero after two days for each day absent)  I (Incomplete due to lack of work completion  IA (Incomplete due to absence  Ex (Excused from assignment)

Late / Redo Late work or a need for redo will result in a lunch time work session Students will earn no more than an 80 for late/redo work; teacher discretion for redo on tests/quizzes/projects if grade is between 70-80 Homework is not subject to the late/redo policy Parents should be contacted for repeated late/redo issues

Late / Redo (cont.)  Work not handed in or redone by the end of the quarter will result in a quarter grade of Incomplete (I). › Students will have two weeks to complete missing work or redo failing assignments › After two weeks if work is not handed in, the grade of “0” will remain and the quarter grade will be calculated with the “0’s”. If the quarter grade falls below 50, the quarter grade will be a 50.

Late / Redo Discipline Issues  Students who make no effort on a test or assignment will be allowed a redo following a re-teaching opportunity but will also be written up for discipline purposes.  Consistent failure to complete/redo work that has not improved with parent contact will result in the development of an improvement plan. Administration, parents, student, teacher and guidance will be involved in the plan. The building principal will schedule the meeting.

Structured Lunch Work Time Students who are behind on work or need to redo work will have a structured lunch/work time. Lunch detention agenda: ◦ Students will be expected to arrive in the detention room five minutes after the second lunch bell. ◦ While eating, students will spend the remainder of the lunch time working on late work or work to be redone.

Academic Academy  Will meet Monday through Thursday (except for staff meeting days)  2:30 to 3:30 (regardless of bus arrival)  Students will be expected to stay 3 out of 4 days  On Friday of each week, a list of students who skipped more than one day will be given to Mrs. York for discipline purposes  Students who skip more than one day of Academic Academy will be assigned to lunch detention every day the following week.

Academic Academy  The first time that a student is assigned to Academic Academy, he/she will be allowed to leave as soon as he has earned a passing grade in the class(es) he was failing at the grade review time (progress or quarter). Written evidence of passing must be provided by the teacher to the Academy teachers.  Any subsequent assignment to Academic Academy, he/she will be required to stay until the next grade review (progress or quarter)

Progress Reports Teachers and students must adhere to the deadlines: 1.Work handed in by the end of the student day on Friday of eligibility will be graded and posted by the following Wednesday at 4:00 pm 2. Any work handed in after the Friday review will not count toward eligibility, but must be graded in a timely manner to be reflected on the quarter grade

RTI / Gap Attack Work Days RTI teachers will work with students to create a plan to complete late work or work that must be redone It is the student’s responsibility to monitor W2S grades Monday, Wednesday, Friday – Work days Tuesday, Thursday – RTI / Gap Attack
