 FIRST, we took notes.  SECOND, we created questions by looking at our notes. And finally… Let’s Continue…

 Writing a summary is the THIRD way you are able to review your notes  The summary is located at the end of your notes  The purpose of a summary is to restate the main ideas in your notes Writing a Summary

1.Introductory Sentences (2 sentences)  Topic sentence + 1 other intro sentence for the reader 2.Supporting Details (# is determined by your notes)  Provides details from the notes that answer the EQ 3.Closing Sentences (1 sentence)  Restates the topic of your summary in a new way and provides a closing thought Parts of a Summary

 Let’s start with your introductory sentences… 1.Focus on RESTATING the essential question into a statement  Briefly review the essential question (what is it?) EQ: What are important school wide policies and procedures and how do they affect me as a student? Writing a Summary

There are several important school wide policies and procedures that affect students. Some choices for the 2 nd introductory sentence are…  # 1: These policies are important for keeping helping keep our school safe and focused on learning.  # 2: Such policies are created for students to ensure that they understand expectations for their behavior and the consequences of their actions.  #3: Policies regarding (list some main ideas in notes) are shared to make sure that students understand these guidelines.
