Page 2 ACE Mission – Eliminate the Barriers between the University Technology Transfer, Spin-Off Incubation, and Commercialization organizations  Streamline the commercialization process to help entrepreneurs and researchers bring innovative technologies to market;  Provide entrepreneurs and researchers one source and one point of contact for commercialization expertise, services and support; and  Provide industry with a single point of contact for research in the Waterloo Region

Page 3 Introducing ACE Partnership established in 2008 between:  Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE)  Centre for Commercialization of Research (CCR), funded by the Government of Canada’s Networks of Centres of Excellence program  Program funding from the Province of Ontario  Accelerator Centre (AC)  Facility funded by the federal and provincial governments, OCE, the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, the City of Waterloo and the University of Waterloo. Ongoing program funding provided by OCE and MRI  University of Waterloo  Intellectual Property Management Group (IPMG) for technology transfer

Page 8 Partner Roles within ACE UW – Intellectual Property Management Group  Assist the University research community in transferring technologies to industry for commercialization  Identify new University technology opportunities and assess commercial viability, business strategy and plan development  Secure IP protection with a view to commercialize via licensing or start-up company creation activities  Obtain follow on investment from government agency/funding programs, venture capital and angel investors/networks  Educate UW faculty, staff and students in understanding issues associated with IP protection
