Cell Phone Usage by Generations By Kiley Feely

My Hypothesis  The older a person is the less likely they are to use a cell phone for other uses such as social networking, internet, and camera.  The younger generation will more often use a cell phone and all of its features.

Survey  60 and 70 year olds  50 year olds  30 year olds  Teenagers I conducted a survey that questioned 4 different age groups.

Survey  Using a cell phone to make regular calls.  Using a cell phone to browse the internet  Using a cell phone to access social networking sites  Using a cell phone to text colleagues and friends  Using a cell phone as a camera I asked participants about their cell phone usage concerning different features of the phone. The questions concerned the following features:

Usage Scale  1 means Not aware of, never use it  2 means Aware of, but never use it  3 means Have used it  4 means Use it sometimes  5 means Use it frequently

Results

Only the older generation uses a land line to make regular phone calls. Cell phones were the main source for making regular phone calls.

Cell Phones used for Internet Access The working generation tended to have this feature and use it more often than the older generations.

Social Networking on the Cell Teenagers definitely use the social networks on their cell phones more than the older generation!

Texting The older generations are starting to use this feature more and more, but the younger generations still use texting more than the older generation.

Using Cell phones as Cameras This feature is used most often by teenagers also.

Conclusions  The younger generations use more features on the cell phone than older generation users.  Teenagers use phones for internet use if they can afford the data package.  Older generations prefer to call rather than text or network.
