The year Austria declared war on Serbia after the assassination of the Austrian heir; caused all of Europe to rush to enter World War I

The year a U.S. naval ship exploded in Havana, Cuba; it marked the beginning of the Spanish American War between the United States and Spain

What is the Declaration of Independence?

Document added to the Constitution in 1791 to guarantee individual rights of citizens of the United States

What is the Bill of Rights?

Document written in 1215, beginning the ideas of both a representative government as well as a limited government for England

What is the Magna Carta?

The series of papers written to support the ratification of the Constitution; used arguments as the benefits of an extended republic based on the consent of the people and the Imbecility of the Articles of Confederation

What are the Federalist Papers?

The three post Civil War Amendments abolishing slavery, guaranteeing citizenship, and giving the right to vote to male ex-slaves

What are the 13th, 14th, and the 15th Amendments?

The connection between the 19th, the 24th, the 26th Amendments

What is an attempt to achieve equality by extending the right to vote to groups previously denied?

The Amendment that allowed for the direct election of Senators by the citizens; it increased the citizens vote in the national government

What is the 17th Amendment?

The Amendment that created a graduated income tax in an attempt to provide more equity in the taxation of the citizenry

What is the 16th Amendment?

The June 6, 1944 Allied invasion commanded by Eisenhower with over 1 million troops in Normandy, France-led to the eventual surrender of Germany

What was D-Day?

The names of two fronts of World War II; caused the United States to have to split their military efforts and forces

What were the European theater and the Pacific theater?

The dictators and their respective countries who rose to power on strong nationalistic policies and complete control of the lives of their citizens; they make up the major Axis powers in World War II
