4 American Revolution The war took place from 1775-1777 13 American Colonies overthrew the British government led by George Washington Thomas Jefferson wrote the declaration of independence in 1776 declaring independence for the colonies. Next Slide Return to Main Menu

5 War of 1812 War between United States and Great Britain from 1812 to 1815. America declared war to solve restrictions that the British put on them such as trade restrictions and border disputes. Francis Scott Key writes the Star Spangled Banner in 1814 after a series of United States victories to end the war. Next Slide Return to Main Menu

6 Civil War War between the Union and Confederate armies in the United States from 1861-1865 over political issues such as slavery and southern secession. Deadliest War in American history over 650,000 people died and the number could be much higher. Abraham Lincoln was the president during the war: gave slaves freedom and won the war for the Union but was assassinated on April, 15 1965. Next Slide Return to Main Menu

7 Spanish American War 1898 War between Spain and the United States. Conflict over the United States territory possession's such as Philippines, Cuba, and Puerto Rico Treaty of Paris in 1898 gave the United States control of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Philippines. Next Slide Return to Main Menu

8 World War 1 1914-1918 war against the Central Powers (Germany, Austria- Hungary) and the Allied Powers (Russia, France, England, and United States) United States did not enter the war until 1917 after the Zimmerman telegram and the sinking of the Lusitania. 9 World War 2 1939-1945 war between the axis powers (Germany, Italy and Japan) and Allied Powers (United States, Russia, France, and Germany) Adolf Hitlers invasion of Europe, set up of concentration camps, and attempt to take over the world with his “Aryan” race. Anywhere from 50 to 85 million people were killed in world war 2 and is the deadliest conflict in human history. Next Slide Return to Main Menu

10 Korean War 1950-1953 war between North Korea (also China) and South Korea (also United nations and United States) North Korean forces invaded South Korea, after a few months of fighting South Korean forces were able to push North Korea back to the 48 th parallel. After two years at deadlock, an armistice was signed in 1953 creating a demilitarized zone at the 38 th parallel between the two countries that still has bordfer problems today. 11 Vietnam War 1955-1975 war between United States and Vietnam as well other communist states. United States involvement began to end the spread of communism but a large anti-war movement began in the United States. 58,220 US soldiers were killed and as many as 3 million Vietnamese were killed in the world.
