Bell Ringer What kind of trees grow in the deciduous forest?

Recall from Friday: –Oak, maple, hickory –Trees than loose their leaves –Trees that leaves change color

Today I can describe the desert biome. I can describe the populations found in a desert biome.

Think about it! List the six major land biomes

Answers 1. desert 2. tundra 3. taiga 4. deciduous forest 5. rain forest 6. grassland

What is the main characteristic of a desert? ? What do you think?

Look at the pictures What does a desert look like?

What type of soil does a desert have? Sandy, rocky soil

How would plants adapt to the desert? leaves and branches that store water thick waxy cuticles to prevent water loss by evaporation, deep roots

How do animals adapt to the desert? Active mainly at night, burrow underground to stay cool.

What have we discussed today? Desert Tomorrow –Taiga –Tundra

Questions (Please copy) due on Tuesday! 1. List 3 animals and their adaptations for the desert. 2. Why would desert plants with very shallow root systems be a good adaptation to life in the desert? 3. What kind of soil is in the desert? 4. How are plants adapted to life in a desert? 5. How are animals adapted to life in a desert?
