Tapestry Leveraging the Rich Diversity of Women in Retail and Consumer Goods

The growing power of women Workplace Women are nearly half of the US labor force but hold less than 19% of executive positions In 2013, women held 17% of board seats for Fortune 500 companies while women of color held just 3.2% of those seats By 2050, 1 of every 2 women (53%) will be a woman of color Marketplace U.S. women have tremendous — and growing — purchasing power, as much as $15 trillion a year U.S. women report controlling nearly 73% of household spending and Canadian women report controlling or influencing more than 67% By 2018, minority spending is expected to grow 24% Source: Tapestry, Network of Executive Women, 2014.

Women leaders drive success Companies with diverse leadership Higher returns Less likely to fail Better connected to consumers Preferred leadership style

Women in the workplace Only 6 in 10 women are satisfied with their workplace experiencesNearly one-third feel “stuck” in their jobs Common issues for those feeling stuck: workplace culture, family responsibilities, inability to relocate, and having a poor manager Only one half of the women surveyed reported having a sponsor or mentor Source: Tapestry, Network of Executive Women, Companies have missed — or ignored — opportunities to close the gender achievement gap

Multicultural women: Missed opportunity Source: Tapestry, Network of Executive Women, Women comprise the world’s largest emerging market 85% of the America’s population growth will come from people of color through 2050 Multicultural women lag behind white women in advancing to higher leadership levels “People are making progress in advancing multicultural women, but not enough.” Rodney McMullen The Kroger Co.

Multicultural women’s unique challenges are not being addressed. White women and multicultural women perceive the workplace differently Most corporate cultures encourage “covering” Work/life balance for multicultural women is an added challenge The Intersection of Race and Gender Source: Tapestry, Network of Executive Women, 2014.

Agenda for change Source: “Tapestry,” Network of Executive Women, Appoint and develop ambassadors of change Reward mentoring and sponsorship Embrace different leadership styles Develop the pipeline Create opportunities for multicultural women to be recognized Measure their performance, retention and development success
