 Veterinarian  Veterinary technician

The seven key points of being a veterinarian.

 School/training- Four years to earn a bachelor degree of science. Also four years to earn a doctor of veterinary medicine degree. Over all it takes eight years education and a successful state exam.  Average salary- In Michigan the average salary is 81,450. The average salary in the united states is 82,040.

 Working hours- Working hours for vegetarians are tough as most work more than fifty hours a week. Some are on call after business hours.  Life style- To me the life style all depends on the person. With a veterinarians salary you can have a life style with a big house, nice cars, and be able to have money to spend.

 Location- Veterinarians work indoors and outdoors. When working indoors it is mainly in a clinic. When the job calls to be outdoors it can be on farms, or at ranches.  Career cluster- The career cluster that a veterinarian falls under is agriculture and natural resources. This career cluster came second on the worksheet for me.

 Values- The values to be a veterinarian are to help all animals in need. Also to treat all different kinds of animals the same. You have to value the life of the animal as a person.  Tasks and responsibilities- The tasks and responsibilities for a veterinarian get very lengthy. The veterinarian gives the animal the treatments. Some treatments include surgery, medication, dressing a wound, and settling bones.

 Working with data/people/things- The job of a veterinarian works with data people and things. They use many tools to take the data. Also interact with people as well as the animals.  Work environment- The working environment is very high pressure. The environment is indoor outdoor meaning it can be a lot of physical work. The job is always extremely challenging mentally.

 Location- A veterinarian technicians location would be normally indoors. They work in laboratories, animal hospitals, and animal clinics.  Career cluster- The career cluster for a veterinarian technician is agriculture and natural recourses. This career cluster came second on my work sheet.

 Values- The values of a veterinary technician would be the care for animals as they are all treated equal.

 Task and responsibilities- The tasks and responsibilities of a veterinary technician are very lengthy. The technician dose the laboratory and diagnostic test. They are the ones to explain the condition and medication procedures to the pet owner. They do the many routine clinical and laboratory procedures in the vets office. Also the medical test such as take blood, test urine, fecal matter, and other biological samples for sign of disease. Help keep animals calm and secure as the vet does the shots or check up. Takes the weight, record medical history. Write down the symptoms, behavior, and eating habits to give to the veterinarian.

 Working with data/people/things- The veterinary technician works with all three. They write down the information for the veterinarian. Inter act with the pets and owners. They also work with the tools need to do the procedures and assist with the check ups.  Work environment- The work environment is very stressful always on your feet. The work is both physically demanding and mentally challenging.

 Aptitudes and abilities- I believe I have the aptitude to take care and help animals in need. I also feel I have the ability to learn new ways to help care for the animal.  Benefits- The benefits of a veterinary technician is paid vacation, flexible and part time schedules, and no on call time after hours. Medical, dental, and prescription drug insurance, and participation in Benfield 401(k).

 Career outlook- The career outlook for a veterinary technician is very high. Currently 80,200 in the United States and 5,570 new jobs opening each year. Not much growth expected in the next ten years.  International career outlook- The international career outlook is about average in the world.

 The main reason why I chose these two career options is I enjoy being with animals.  I care for the health of animals as if they are people.  These careers interest me as I have always cared for animals and enjoy having them around.
