What does community mean to you? A community is a group of people that have contact with each other and usually live near to each other. There are lots of different kinds of communities. Communities can be all different sizes. Slide 2

What does community mean to you? These are all examples of communities: Your family This class This school This town / village / suburb The local church / mosque / synagogue / temple The school football club Local Brownies / Scouts The local choir Ethnic / cultural community group. Slide 3

What does community mean to you? We all belong to some communities, and there are other communities that only some of us belong to. Slide 4

My community - post it wall Can you think of somebody from your community who helps you? Slide 5

My community - post it wall Write down: their name a little bit about them and what they do how they help you. Slide 6

Community interview You are going to interview people in the local community. Remember to always be polite. Slide 7

Community interview You are going to find out things like: Person’s name Person’s age Where they live What they do for a living What a normal day is like for them Who they work with Whether they’ve done different things for a living in the past Whether they went to university / college / do any other courses. What careers advice they would give to people now in primary school. Slide 8

Mystery guest We are going to have a mystery guest in today’s class. You have to find out what the guest does for a living. Slide 9

Mystery guest You can ask the mystery guest questions about what they do, but the guest can only answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’. For example: Do you wear a uniform for your job? Put your hand up to ask a question. Slide 10
