Climate/ Vegetation Fossil deposits left in caves from small mammals called the rock hyrax. The climate used to be a lot wetter then it is now. Caves are built from limestone where few plants grow. Silt deposits are found on the flat land. It makes it good for archeologists to find fossils. History/ Current Events Current Event “Gunshots at US embassy in Yemen” Gunmen have opened fire outside of the US embassy in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa. Hours later the embassy reciebed a threat about a potential attack in the “foreseeable future”. Those three men were arrested after a car chase. History Yemen is one of the oldest civilizations in the east. In the 6 th century it was dominated by six successive civilizations. 630 C.E. Yemen became part of the Muslim realm. They did not have non speaking people through the 8 th and 12 th centuries. They became republican May 22 of 1990

Economy GVP is 52.5 billion per capital Growth rate is 3.1% Unemployment is 35% in 2003 Arable land is 3% Most people are employed in agricultural and herding services Their industries are cotton textiles, and small aluminum products They export 8.2 billion and they import 5.4 billion. Major trading partners are China, Thailand, and India.

Culture The language spoken here is mostly Arabic They use the metric system The people of Yemen use a unique clay architecture for their buildings. The religion that is most popular in this country is Sunni Muslim, and Shia Muslim, and there are some small Christian and Hindu communities. Their meals consist of breads, teas, meat, eggs, herbs, and spices. The meat they use typically is goat or sheep. Lately poultry and fish have become a lot more popular. Over 90% of the population chews qat for more than five hours a day

Places to See Sanaa is one of the oldest urban settlements of mankind.-visit the National Museum. Wadi Dhar is a place in Yemen famous for its rock palace of the Imam and its fruit gardens. Beit Al Faqih on Fridays they have the biggest weekly regional market in Africa. Khokha is a fishing village with palm woods along the Red Sea.
