Complete the required minimum 300 observation hours in the Athletic Training Room.

Course Objectives By the end of the class students should be able to demonstrate: –Proper taping techniques for athletic injuries –Basic anatomy of the human body. –Basic knowledge in injury prevention and care. The purpose of this class is to be exposed to careers in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine. You will only get out of the class what you put into it!!!!

Grading Information Over all Grade: –40% 1 st Semester Grade –40% 2 nd Semester Grade –20% Final Exam Semester Grades: - 30% Tests - 30% Tests - 30% Quizzes - 20% Participation (Hours) - 20% Homework Grading Scale: –A = 100% - 90% –B = 89% - 80% –C = 79% - 70% –D = 69% - 60% –F = 59% or lower Failure to complete all assignments by the end of the year will result in an incomplete on the report card.

Athletic Training Room Hours You need to log a minimum of 300 observation hours outside of class time. Minimum = D- 60% –Hours Grading Scale: –A = 450 – 500 –B = 400 – 449 –C = 350 – 399 –D = Failure to meet this requirement will result in a 20% grade reduction of your final grade!!! Any hours over 500 may be counted towards community service hours!!!

How to get your Athletic Training Room Hours? This can be done by: –Assisting in the athletic training room –Supervising practices –Supervising games A sign up sheet will be provided each week. If you sign up for an event you will be expected to be there for the entire event. Failure to show will result in a loss of hours. If you need to cancel, you need to inform one of the ATCs 24 hours prior to the event unless it is a family emergency.

Athletic Training Room, Practices, and Games Please dress appropriately for these events because you are not only representing the school, but the Athletic Training program. Please dress appropriately for the weather. You need to wear shoes you can run in, this means NO SANDALS, SLIP-ONS, or HEELS when attending to practices or events. If you are not dressed appropriately, you will be sent home!

Athletic Training Room Equipment Golf Carts –Used to transport water, ice, and students to and from practice. –Can also be used to transport injured athletes to the Athletic Training Room. –At least one of the carts needs to be left inside so the ATC on duty can get to an area quickly in case of emergency. –Please inform me immediately if there are any problems with the carts (maintenance or crashes)!!!! –Serious injury can occur with these carts, please be careful.

Athletic Training Room Equipment (continued) Radios –When calling for an ATC remember the following: Say your name, where you are, and who you are calling (ex. “This is (your name) at Varsity Soccer to Mr. Cronin.”) Calmly explain the problem (is it a life-threatening situation or a regular injury) (ex. “I have a soccer player who just sprained their ankle and they are unable to walk.”) Explain what steps you have taken already (ex. “I have them sitting out and icing until you arrive.”)

Any Questions??? In the Fall we have games and practices every day Monday – Saturday with Football (3 levels), Soccer (3 levels), Volleyball (3 levels), Tennis (2 levels), and Cross Country (Men’s and Women’s). In the Winter we have games and practices every day, Monday – Saturday, with Men’s Basketball (3 levels), Women’s Basketball (3 levels), Gymnastics, and Wrestling. In the Spring we have practices and games every day (Monday – Saturday) with Baseball (3 levels), Softball (3 levels), Soccer (3 levels), Tennis (2 levels), Volleyball (3 levels), Men’s Track (2 levels) and Women’s Track (2 levels). You will be required to have a variety of games as a part of your experience. Please don’t plan on doing only one sport or one level.
