DOUGHNUTS  A doughnut or donut is a type of fried dough confectionery or dessert food. . They are usually deep-fried from a flour dough, and typically either ring-shaped or without a hole and often filled.  The doughnut is popular in many countries and prepared in various forms as a sweet snack that can be homemade or purchased in bakeries, supermarkets, food stalls, and franchised specialty outlets.  They can also be in any shape or size.

Hanson Gregory  Hanson Gregory was the man who created the doughnut  Hanson Gregory, an American, claimed to have invented the ring- shaped doughnut in 1847 aboard a lime-trading ship when he was only 16 years old.

How are they made  Doughnuts are made by simply making dough in a ring shape deep- fired in oil.  You can even put blueberries or chocolate chips in the dough so you can make different tasting doughnut

Why they were made  Fried dough has been made all around the world. Dutch settlers who brought apple and cream pies, cookies and cobbler to the New World also introduced doughnuts. Their doughnuts were called olykoeks, or oily cakes – sweet dough balls fried in pork fat. Early doughnuts were often filled with apples, prunes or raisins. The name “doughnut” may refer to the nuts put in the middle of the dough ball to prevent an uncooked center or possibly to “dough knots” – another popular shape for the olykoeks. Today, “doughnut” and “donut” are used interchangeably.
