Role of Women Women in Early Christian Churches had little freedom, they weren’t allowed to speak, teach, baptize or offer in church. In modern churches women have more rights. They are allowed to be church leaders, sing in choirs, pray, teach and do other things without any restrictions. The bible refers to a number of women who played important roles: Mary (mother of Jesus), Mary Magdalene, Mary and Bertha, Eve, etc.
