Drill: One conflict in the story is man versus society. Reread the passage on page 103 in which the Creature encounters the villagers. What is your reaction to this event? Would you have reacted the same way the villagers did? What impact does this event have on the rest of the story?

Objective: Students will determine a theme of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including its relationship to the characters, setting, and plot in order to provide an objective summary of the text. Drill: What is the author’s theme or message based on this text? “I am thy creature, and I will be even mild and docile to my natural lord and king if thou wilt also perform they part, the which thou owest me” (Shelley 98).
