Presentation transcript:

Say No to Bullying! Bullying is negative acts committed by one or more children against another child. These acts can be physical or verbal.

Avoid Confrontation One of the best ways to prevent bullying is to avoid the situation. Here are some things you can do. Walk away Try not to be alone with a bully. Refuse to play in the game.

Verbal Use polite words, but be firm! Pretend to agree with what they are saying. This will show them you can stand up for yourself. Use a calm and clear voice. Use polite words, but be firm!

Honesty Show them your self- confidence. Tell them how they are making you feel and you would like them to stop.

Yell! Shout “Stop” or “Leave me alone” as loud as you can. Be strong and show the bully that you are confident and they can not treat you like that.

Body Language Walk tall, with your head held high. Look the bully straight in the eye. Practice confidence and express this. Take a confident stance when communicating.

Adult Intervention Tell someone who can help stop it. There is no shame in this. You should not have to handle this on your own. Develop a plan.

Preventative Action Make friends with other kids who you get along with. These friends will stick up for you and there is always strength in numbers. Increase your self-esteem. Join a sports team or a kids’ group.

Extra Tips When you are being called a name don’t say something mean back because this will only make the problem worse, not better. Imagine you are throwing the words into the trash can. Fighting should be the last resort. Only fight when you are about to be harmed by someone and you cannot leave or find anyone to help you. A good idea would be to take a self defense class to boost your confidence. One of the most effective ways to deal with bullies is to stand up to them and let them know that you are not scared of them.
