C.C.C.P. – Resume Introduction Resume: – A brief account of one’s professional or work experience and qualifications, often submitted with a job application What should be included in a resume? – There is not one correct way to fill out a resume, but there are many wrong ways – A resume should include: a heading, contact information, an objective, work experience, education, and job skills – One may also include a brief list of interests, interpersonal skills, and hobbies.

C.C.C.P. – Resume introduction Format – A resume should be organized so the reader’s eye naturally and easily progresses to the important information on the page – There is not one correct way to format a resume, but there are many wrong ways – Common Mistakes: Using “I” in the text. Ex: I completed my education at ISU. Making the resume too busy. Using a an unreadable or small font

C.C.C.P. – Resume Introduction Resumes Common strengths – Use of action words, clear and easily readable font and font size. Format: – Font: should be readable and clear, make it large enough so the reader will not have to strain his/her eyes – Structured in order of most important information to least important information. – Very well organized and easy to follow

C.C.C.P. – Resume Introduction Header – The header should include: Name, address, phone number, and an account Make it very clear and readable Objective – The objective is designed to inform the reader of your intent for the company or organization – It should be a very clear and somewhat obvious statement

C.C.C.P. – Resume Introduction Experience – The most relevant work experience should be listed at the top of the section Ex: A woman interested in a sales position should list her sales experience before she lists her experience as a part time bank teller – First the author should list his/her position, then list his/her accomplishments in that position. The use of action words is extremely important What is the impact of using strong action words? – Afterwards, experience should be listed in chronological order.

C.C.C.P. – Resume Introduction Education – Education should be listed in chronological order. – List some accomplishments and involvement in your education experience Include: Extracurricular activities, service learning hours, clubs, athletics, specialty training, NHS, etc. – Do not include any accomplishments or involvements from middle/elementary school unless they are significant

C.C.C.P. – Resume Introduction Skills – This is your chance to include information about specific skills you may have – Ex: bilingualism, Microsoft office skills, computer skills, training in autos, etc. – Again remember to use ACTION words.
