Developing Student Leadership in PE

Sports Colleges have a higher percentage of pupils involved in leadership and volunteering programmes compared to the national average and Sports Colleges showed the highest increase in the number of pupils gaining five or more A*-C grade GCSEs when compared to all specialist schools. Physical Education Matters 2009

“Students make a good contribution to their local community by acting as young leaders, coaches and peer support mentors to over eight primary schools and contribute more widely through Whickham’s partnership with schools and charities overseas in Bolivia, Egypt and Mexico.” Ofsted 2010

School is the perfect time for students to practice leadership: it is a safe environment where the consequences of mistakes are fairly benign and positive support is always readily available. Leader 2009
