2 Who am I and why did they ask me? I am the Head of the PE Faculty here at Queen Elizabeth’s School Pilot School

3 What is it the Award? It is an Award that recognises and rewards young people’s learning, progress and achievement in and through sport. Because it is an Award – it has targets to achieve and challenges to do. The more you do the more points you gain.

7 Who can do it?

8 Why get involved This is what the award can do for the young people: EMPLOYABILITY – the YSA will help them to build skills for work and collect evidence of using these skills to go into a CV, improve their chances of getting a better job and might even help them earn more money. UNIVERSITY & COLLEGE - it will help them to demonstrate their wider skills above and beyond their other academic subjects. 

9 Why get involved CROSS CURRICULAR - a great way to bring their interest in other subjects alive through the Award. English and sports journalism, computers and timekeeping, art and video production. What projects do they need to do... can they use the Award to do them? 

10 Why get involved OWNERSHIP - the Award belongs to them. It is designed so that ‘they have ownership’. Be creative and can think outside the box. WELLBEING - doing the Award will improve how they feel. Helping them to do more exercise, eat better and perhaps get more sleep.

11 Why get involved FRIENDS – the Award is a social thing and they can do it with their friends. FUN - the Award is designed to be fun and like a game. The more stuff they do the more points they get. 

12 Why get involved NEW OPPORTUNITIES - the Award will open up new opportunities – help them to do new things and meet new people through volunteering and social action. SENSE OF ACHIEVEMENT – will have achieved new things and be ready to take on new challenges.

13 How will record your activity? Explain how the ePlatform works

14 WELLBEING - Agree some other wellbeing targets? Nutrition? Lifestyle? Screen time? Sleep?

15 ACHIEVEMENT What qualifications do they want to get? What do they want to learn more about? Leadership? Coaching? Officiating? Event Management?

16 LEADERSHIP This section of the Award is about leading and volunteering. What do they want to do to? In school and outside school. Will it give them the number of hours you need for the Award?

17 REFLECT What skills and behaviours do you want to develop through the Award?

18 CARE CREATIVE AND THINKING SKILLS ASPIRATIONS AND PERSONAL SKILLS RESILIENCEEMPATHY Innovation Being able to imagine and generate new ideas, demonstrating creativity. Aspiration The motivation to achieve and confidence to make it happen Resilience The capacity to learn from failure and perseverance to succeed Empathy Understanding others’ perspectives. Evaluation Being able to reflect, analyse, evaluate and decide. Self Management Being organised and independent, for example managing your time. Self Confidence Believing in your abilities. Motivating and Influencing Others 1 Inspiring and engaging others to achieve a common goal. Information Seeking Asking questions and gathering information to be well informed. Personal Responsibility Taking control of your emotions, behaviours, attitude and actions. Determination / Perseverance The drive to stick with a task until the very end. Collaboration Working with others with shared objectives. Change Agent Having the understanding and vision to challenge current thinking. Integrity Being honest and fair with yourself and others. Mental Toughness Being able to shake off setbacks or criticism and still perform. Communication: Listening Actively listening and accurately understanding what others mean. Self-motivation Taking the initiative to do what you need to. Communication: Speaking Speaking with clarity and confidence. Team Management Developing relationships within a team that brings out the best in the whole team.

19 THE EVENT Working towards a big sport event is a great way to do the Award. What event will they do? – Sports day – School Games event – Primary multi sport event – Whole school charity fun run – ACE festival

20 THE EVENT YSA GOLD At GOLD the Sport Event is an important part of the Award. Here they will put into action and demonstrate their project management, team working and leaderships skills. They will produce an event portfolio that evidenced what they did and what they achieved.

22 YSA supporting wider school outcomes Personal development, behaviour and welfare Parent engagement It is worth a closer look at the Ofsted handbook and your recent inspection report at exactly how the YSA can provide evidence of your activity
