A Kingdom Which Cannot Be Moved
Presentation transcript:

Jesus is the Christ! The Prophet God had promised, through Moses, to raise up a prophet like Moses from among the Israelites. The prophet would be like Moses in that… He would tell the words of God because He would know God. Be a mediator between God and men. Establish a new covenant. Jesus fulfilled all of these like no other could. The word Christ, or Messiah, means anointed. It has reference to one chosen, devoted, dedicated, or set apart for the service and/or worship of God. In time though, the term came to have a more specific meaning. It referenced the one that God had chosen to save His people. Role # 2: King Reference Verses Joshua 21:43-45 Luke 2:22-35 Luke 2:38 The nation of Israel became a true kingdom around 40 years after their departure from Egypt. After many years of rebellion and disobedience, God delivered on His promise and took away the kingdoms into captivity. At the time of the birth of Jesus, It had been about 600 years since Israel had been a physical kingdom. However, the Jews were always looking for deliverance and redemption. Joshua 21:43-45 Luke 2:22-35 Luke 2:38 Mark 15:43 Luke 24:13-35 Acts 1:6 Luke 23:2 Mark 15:32 John 1:49 Role # 2: King

Role # 2: King Reference Verses 2 Samuel 7:1-17 1 Chronicles 22:7-10 God promised David… …to raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. …to establish the throne of his kingdom forever. David understood the promise had both an immediate and a future fulfillment. Immediate: Solomon building the temple of God. Future: The Messiah 2 Samuel 7:1-17 1 Chronicles 22:7-10 Acts 2:30-31 Role # 2: King

Role # 2: King Reference Verses Isaiah 9:6-7 Isaiah 11:1-5 6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.” Isaiah 9:6-7 Isaiah 11:1-5 Romans 15:8-12 Matthew 3:16 John 1:32-34 Role # 2: King

Role # 2: King Reference Verses Jeremiah 23:5-6  5 "Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 6In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: 'The LORD is our righteousness.‘” Jeremiah 23:5-6 Role # 2: King

Role # 2: King Reference Verses Micah 5:2-3 2But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days. 3Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labor has given birth; then the rest of his brothers shall return to the people of Israel. Micah 5:2-3 Role # 2: King

Role # 2: King Reference Verses Daniel 2:43-44 43As you saw the iron mixed with soft clay, so they will mix with one another in marriage, but they will not hold together, just as iron does not mix with clay. 44And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever, Daniel 2:43-44 Role # 2: King

Role # 2: King Reference Verses Matthew 3:1-2  1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 3:1-2 Role # 2: King

Role # 2: King Reference Verses Jesus, being the Messiah, fulfilled the promises of God with respect to being a King. Jesus was from the correct tribe – Judah. Jesus was from the right family – the line of David. Jesus was born in the right city – Bethlehem. Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem as promised. Genesis 49:10 Hebrews 7:14 Luke 1:26-33 Romans 1:3-4 Luke 2:1-7 Matthew 2:1-12 Matthew 21:1-11 Luke 19:28-40 John 12:12-16 Zechariah 9:9-10 Role # 2: King

Role # 2: King Reference Verses The Nature of His Kingdom. Jesus promised to build His kingdom. However, the kingdom was to be spiritual, not physical. Jesus became King when He defeated His enemies – Satan and death. His kingdom was established on the day of Pentecost Matthew 16:18-19 John 18:33-40 Luke 17:20-21 Daniel 7:13-14 Acts 1:9-11 Matthew 4:1-11 Matthew 12:22-28 Acts 2 Isaiah 2:1-5 Micah 4:1-5 Role # 2: King

Role # 2: King Reference Verses The Nature of His Kingdom. The Kingdom of Christ then was spoken of as being in existence in the 1st Century. Jesus is now reigning as King at the right hand of God. He can reign as King forever because death has no rule in His spiritual kingdom. Christians today are part of His spiritual kingdom! Colossians 1:13 1 Thessalonians 2:12 Colossians 4:11 Acts 2:33-36 Ephesians 1:20-23 Philippians 2:9-11 1 Peter 3:22 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 Ephesians 6:10-17 Role # 2: King

Role # 2: King Reference Verses How can you enter His kingdom? Jesus provided the instructions to Nicodemus. A person must be “born of water and the spirit.” This includes active obedience to the words of God including baptism. Being a kingdom citizen is a spiritual change, not a physical outward change. John 3:3-5 Luke 8:10-11 Matthew 13:19 Matthew 18:3 Romans 2:28-29 Role # 2: King
