David E. Swenson Affinity Static Control Consulting LLC (512) – static ESD Association ( Texas Chapter of the ESD Association (

Static Control Training  Normal Classes:  DVD or Video sessions that don’t adequately or realistically cover what you actually do in your facility – good to spread the word but not always focused on what you really need to do  Vendor sponsored training that has a major goal of selling you something (a little harsh but it happens and some are actually pretty good –not really free!)  Consultant training (can be expensive unless part of some other activity where it is built in)  ESD Association Program Manager training (excellent but more than what many need)

Texas Chapter Training  When?  March 4-5, 2014  Where?  3M Innovation Center, 6801 River Place Blvd.  What time?  8:30 AM- 4:30 PM each day  What?  Four (4) sessions

The Four (4) Sessions  Tuesday March 4, 2014 – 8:30 AM- 12:00 PM  Fundamental handling practices to reduce the risk of ESD damage  Discussion regarding the need to understand the process variables that can lead to ESD damage to what ever is sensitive to electrostatics in your business  What is needed to control static electricity on personnel, equipment, product and packaging, to a level below the threshold that can cause damage  Instructors:  Ginger Hansel – Dangelmayer Associates  David E. Swenson – Affinity Static Control Consulting, LLC

The Four (4) Sessions  Tuesday March 4, 2014 – 1:00 PM -4:30 PM  Installing the most basic ESD control program (ESD control on a shoestring budget)  Understanding the critical areas in your processes  Determine what is needed  Find the materials and items that will satisfy the needs  Evaluation of how well the risks of ESD damage are reduced  Instructors  Ginger Hansel – Dangelmayer Associates  David E. Swenson – Affinity Static Control Consulting, LLC

The Four (4) Sessions  Wednesday March 5, 2014 – 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM  Simplified measurements to ensure that an ESD control program is working and a review of best practices used by major companies today  What is necessary to measure?  Why is it necessary to make measurements?  What are the tools and instruments needed for the basic measurements?  Is ESD a real threat today?  Why don’t we see more failures?  What do the large companies do in regards to ESD risk assessment?  Instructors:  Ginger Hansel – Dangelmayer Associates  David E. Swenson – Affinity Static Control Consulting, LLC

The Four (4) Sessions  Wednesday March 5, 2014 – 1:00-4:30 PM  Auditing an ESD control program  What is needed to ensure that everything you installed to deal with electrostatics is still working as intended?  How to show your customer(s) that you are in control of your processes with regards to ESD  Instructor:  John Kinnear, Jr., - IBM Poughkeepsie, NY – Corporate ESD Control Program Manager

Who can benefit from this program?  ESD damage is not going away – in-fact it is increasing due to automated processes leading to charged device model (CDM) damage  Control of static charge on people - (human body model) HBM is pretty well understood but correct implementation is necessary now and always

Who can benefit from this program?  This training program is intended for small to medium size companies that have no one on their staff to manage the control of electrostatic risks  Any size company will benefit of this one of a kind (and one time only) program at the current pricing structure  Not likely to happen in this area again (or at least not for a long time)

Who can benefit from this program?  In addition, this program will benefit those who have had previous ESD training but, really could use a refresher that is based on current standards and practices  We have designed this program for the smaller contract manufacturer, parts distributor, repair facility, retail stores with in-house repair. But, we are sure that all electronic handling facilities can gain from this set of classes

Costs:  Any one class - $  One full day - $450.00/Save $50.00 plus Memberships ($ value)  Both days – all 4 classes - $ (save $ over individual class fees – plus the Memberships)  What you get:  Class notes  Breaks and Lunch  Membership in the Texas Chapter and ESDA (for attending 2 classes - $105 benefit)  Networking with local ESD control experts  An understanding of where to go to get more information about ESD when you need it

What to expect from this training program?  Get a new understanding of ESD risk assessment  Get updated on industry standards that represent the state-of-the-art in ESD control  Learn the basics necessary to install and implement an ESD control program  Learn how to measure the ESD control program materials and attributes

Please help  If you or your company do not need this program yourselves, please pass the information along to your contacts that may benefit  On behalf of the Texas Chapter of the ESD Association and the ESD Association, we would like to thank you for your interest and assistance  ESD (always) happens – learn how to manage it and control risk

Thanks for your attention Any Questions?
