3 2 Introduction Welcome to NARI’s Chapter Express program. NARI welcomes additional chapters and has developed this program to assist you in starting a NARI chapter in your area. This presentation along with other important documents will present the steps necessary for becoming a chapter. Your commitment to forming a chapter coupled with the assistance you’ll receive from NARI National will ensure a smooth and efficient start-up.

6 5 NARI is……… The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) is the only national trade association committed exclusively to the service of the professional remodeling industry. NARI is the industry forum for the exchange of information and ideas of importance to the progress and growth of the industry and its members.

NARI is an association representing professional remodeling contractors, manufacturers of remodeling products, wholesalers, distributors, and other companies dedicated to the industry nationwide. NARI is comprised of over 7,000 member companies representing over 100,000 remodeling professionals in 58 chapters across the U.S.

16 15 Organizing a Successful NARI Chapter

17 16 First Steps Contact NARI National –Let the Director of Chapter & Member Services know that you are interested in organizing a chapter. –Obtain a list of Members-at-Large and National Member representatives. –Request NARI promotional materials.

18 17 First Steps Generate Interest and Excitement –Discuss the formation of a chapter with your peers in the remodeling industry. –Provide promotional materials to people who are not familiar with NARI. –Develop a core group of people that are interested in working as a steering committee to grow a chapter.

19 18 First Steps Meet with the steering committee to: –Plan an organizational meeting –Set a chapter dues amount

20 19 Setting Chapter Dues Setting and collecting chapter dues are the responsibility of the local association. A portion of the chapter membership dues ($125) will be sent to NARI National to provide services to NARI members. Please keep this in mind when setting chapter dues. Dues should be set based on short and long-term budget requirements. Chapter dues range from $225 to $500 with a majority falling in the $350 area.

23 22 The Organizational Meeting Setting a Date –Determine a meeting date and time –Confirm a meeting location –Invite NARI National representative –Invite potential chapter members (by mail and phone) –Consider a minimal registration fee to cover refreshments and begin the treasury

24 23 The Organizational Meeting Meeting Logistics –Greet attendees (1-2 people at a welcome table to check people in, collect contact information, provide nametags, distribute NARI literature) –Provide refreshments (coffee, soda, water, cookies) –Start and end the meeting on time

25 24 The Organizational Meeting The Format –Call the meeting to order/welcome attendees –Have each attendee introduce themselves (name and company) –Introduce any NARI National representatives –Presentation on NARI benefits and chapter formation –Question and Answer session

26 ©NARI, Inc. 4/2/2005 25 The Organizational Meeting The Wrap-Up –Invite people to join and distribute membership applications, collect applications on-site –You will need a minimum of 15 completed applications to be granted a NARI Chapter Charter

27 26 Post-Meeting Follow-up –Contact anyone that attended the meeting or expressed an interest in the chapter, but hasn’t joined –Set a date for a general membership meeting – the sooner the better

28 27 Steering Committee Hold a general membership meeting to: –Elect Officers and Directors –Adopt model Bylaws –Adopt official chapter name

29 28 Chapter Express The Final Steps

30 29 Application for Chapter Status An application for a NARI Chapter Charter and other required documents must be completed and returned to NARI’s Director of Chapter & Member Services along with all supporting documents.

31 30 Application for Chapter Status Required Documents Completed and signed NARI Chapter Agreement State acknowledgement of incorporation approval Copy of Chapter Bylaws Complete Roster of Members List of Officers and Directors National Board Representative Name of Chapter Geographic Jurisdiction of Chapter Application for Each Chapter Member Check for Full Amount of National Dues

32 31 Application for Chapter Status A complete application and all required supporting documents must be submitted to NARI’s Director of Chapter & Member Services. Following review and acceptance by NARI National and general counsel, approval will be granted. The NARI National Board will ratify the staff approval at the next scheduled board meeting.
