LegumeCHOICE Output 1 Action and Time Plan, February 4, 2015 LegumeCHOICE Output 1 Reporting

Farming system diagnosis and related entry points for multi-purpose legumes in farming systems and synthesis of lessons learnt across all Action Sites Output 1 sets the scene for project interventions by: Assessing current contributions of legumes to rural livelihoods (Activity 1.1) Assessing current institutional environment within which smallholders operate (Activity 1.2) Identification of entry points for legume intensification and diversification, based on results from above activities and secondary information (Activity 1.3) A cross-site analysis of the lessons learnt through will produce IPGs, for use within and beyond the Humidtropics Action Areas (Activity 1.4) LegumeCHOICE Output 1 Reporting

Quick baseline survey (Activity 1.1) Data analysis, reporting and publishing Jeldu baseline survey, March All other Field Sited completed. Double entry in CSPro (DRC done), data validation, export to excel- and other formats (Diga and Kenya Field Sites done). All sites done March 2015 Country wise data analysis, special emphasis on ‘Farm typology indicators’ and ‘Legume baseline data’. Prepare a Baseline Survey Report for each country (to form the basis for peer-review paper). February-April. Cross-country analysis: When data are validated from all Action Sites one file will be formed and exported to suitable programs for further data analysis (1.4, also UoH, etc) (May- June) Prepare cross-site manuscript on typologies and results of baseline survey with emphasis on legumes (May-August) LegumeCHOICE Output 1 Reporting

Farm characterization (1.1), cont. Farm Characterization survey finalized in Kenya, DRC, carried out in Ethiopia April CSProo data entry form prepared, double data entry, need to be validated. Status/time plan -Kenya Febr, DRC Febr, Ethiopia April Action Site: Statistical data analysis and report writing (agree format), time plan March-May Cross-country analysis: When data are validated from all Action Sites one file will be formed and exported to suitable programs for further data analysis (1.4, also UoH, etc) (May-June) Prepare cross-site manuscript on typologies and results of baseline survey with emphasis on legumes (June- September LegumeCHOICE Output 1 Reporting

Assessing current institutional environment within which smallholders operate (Activity 1.2) Collect secondary information, e.g. Humidtropics Situation Analysis and national surveys. March Key informant interviews and/or FGD on socio- technical conditions at Field Site level using the checklist developed. March-April Use Innovation Platforms with stakeholders along the legume value chain (use existing platforms and/or form new, make sure the members are dealing with legumes) Report finalized to inform well in time for the short- rain season June LegumeCHOICE Output 1 Reporting

Identification of entry points for legume intensification & diversification, based on results from above activities & secondary information (1.3) Document the process and decision steps we have gone through to identify entry points. How? Write as narrative and documents steps in a table (Add all documents on wiki) Febr/March Reports and ppts from FGDs carried out in Implementation sites in gender differentiated groups (8 FGD per Action Site); legume use, types, production system, challenges/constraints, and niches/opportunities. Febr, add on wiki Second round FGD using the LegumCHOICE tool will also inform entry points (to be carried out in Febr 2015 or later) LegumeCHOICE Output 1 Reporting

Cross-site analysis of the lessons learnt through will produce IPGs, for use within and beyond the Humidtropics Action Sites (1.4) CSProo data entry and export of data to excel or statistical programs enable cross-site Agree on hypothesis, questions, analysis to be carried out Scientific publication plan, start to draft manuscript 1 in Addis, agree on target journal and time plan What more?
