 First of all I would like to welcome the math department to this meeting. Over the years our faculty has been very strong with its instruction and has been open to new ideas to generate student success. Our overall goal is to provide instruction to our students in a way that will promote 21 st century education and integrate technology into our instruction in a way that would be effective. The purpose of our meeting today is to stress the importance of incorporating technology into your classrooms through effective instruction. One method of integration is through podcasting. Throughout this meeting you will be provided with information from my colleagues on how to develop podcasts and what your students will benefit from podcasting.

 Visual Learner-a video podcast offers the visual learner an option for review and reflection  Auditory Learner-can play and replay the content indefinitely  Kinesthetic Learner-can play the time-shifted content outside of school when movement is free

Students love podcasts because podcasts are:  Available anytime, even on the way to the mall  More compelling than some other classroom activities  Great for students who learn better by listening  Easy to access  Easy to create and post

1. Use the Web 2. Use Apple’s ITunes 3. Obtain a podcast address from other places like magazines, etc.

1. Plan the content and “flow” of your podcast 2. Research and collect the information, and write the scripts or prepare video assets 3. Post your podcast 4. Tell the world 5. Evaluate your podcast and plan for improvement

 Curriculum enhancement  Calculator procedures  Instructional/classroom lecture notes  Differentiation of instruction  Archived Lessons  Problem solving procedures  Study support (repetitive listening)  Videos of hands-on activities

 My name is Ty Dobbs and I would like to welcome you to my portion of the presentation  In the next few slides, I will discuss 3 different websites that produce math podcasts.  These podcasts can be used for students, adults, or everyday needs of individuals

  Produced by Dan Bach who is a college math instructor, and textbook author  Offers help and advice from arithmetic and Pre Algebra to advanced levels such as trigonometry

  Produced by math professor Chaim Goodman-Strauss and KUAF 91.3 Radio Journalist Kyle Kellams  On the air since 2005  Strives to make math enjoyable

  Dedicated to everyday math for everyday people  Developed by Chris Frederick who is a graduate math student at Colorado State University

 For Teachers  The convenience of listening or watching podcasts anytime and sharing knowledge and experiences with others makes podcasting an ideal teacher training format.  Podcasting can benefit diverse student learning styles.  Students are more likely to be engaged in the lesson with the podcasting format.  Many websites offer assistance and ideas for using podcasting in the math classroom.  For Students  Students construct new knowledge by creating podcasts or listening to podcasts created by others.  Students can learn more effective presentation skills.  Podcasts can be reviewed over and over as a way to help grasp certain concepts or review materials for testing.

 As the 21 st century education emerges, we are posed with the problem of keeping the interests of the children through means other than the traditional ways of teaching. Robert Marzano’s research has proven that children learn better by multi-sensory techniques. We also know that the technology era has boomed over the last decade and continues to grow exponentially. Today as we discussed ideas for developing your classroom notes in a way that will be appealing and will involve multi-sensory learning techniques through the use of podcasting. Podcasting is a way for our students to access your classroom notes, short video clips, or classroom information any time by means of audio and or visual through their IPod.

 Darin Byrd- Provided sample Podcasts; Developed the idea for project and introduction; assisted with the organization of the PowerPoint and wiki.  Jake Leonard- Researched the benefits of podcasting; assisted with the organization of the PowerPoint and wiki.  Zack Dotson- Researched how to locate and create podcasts; assisted with the organization of the PowerPoint and wiki.  Ty Dobbs- Organized and researched the website slides of PowerPoint; assisted with the organization of the PowerPoint and wiki; utilization of audio files.  Cari Braddock- assisted with the organization of the PowerPoint; creation and design of wiki; utilization of audio files.
