Welcome to Miss Pew’s Room! Team 6C Leader and Social Studies Teacher Room 228 Back to School Night 2013 Please sign in at one of the tables!

I am lucky enough to work and co-teach with Ms. Dennehy and Ms. Gilligan!

About me… * I am a graduate of SOMS and CHS * I have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies Education from NYU * I have a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati

About my class… * Curriculum! Semester 1 *Government and Citizenship *Immigration *Industrialism *Imperialism *World War I *Roaring Twenties *Great Depression and New Deal Semester 2 *World War II *Cold War (I) – Life post war, Korea, etc. *Civil Rights Movement *Cold War (II) – Vietnam, American society, etc. *Modern America

About my class… * We create our own textbooks! * Every single day (unless there is a test or we are completing a project), your child will complete numbered “notebook pages” * They are given time at the end of class to attach these pages with glue. If your child does not attach them during the given time, they MUST attach them at home.

About my class… * We create our own textbooks! * If your child does NOT complete the page(s) from that day, it is their responsibility to come after school for the materials they need, download them from edmodo, or me for them * All notebook pages are uploaded to edmodo as a PDF and can be downloaded at home * I have both student copies and “teacher” copies of all pages

EDMODO is set up your child to communicate with me, other students, and download any resources they need!

Use my website as resource for YOU to see what notebook pages should be completed and attached!

About my class… * Notebooks are checked every 1-2 weeks and count as 30% of the marking period grade. * Pages that are NOT attached, do NOT receive credit!

About my class… * Organization is ESSENTIAL! September January

About my class… * Grade Breakdown * Notebooks: 30% * Projects: 30% * Tests: 30% * Class preparation and participation: 10%

About my class… * Projects * Projects are always IN CLASS projects * An overview, grading rubric, and materials are always supplied and available on edmodo * Projects include individual, partner, and group work

About my class… * Behavior and Treatment of Materials * Disrespecting classmates, teachers or materials WILL result in removal from activities and simulations.

GRADES *Grades are uploaded to PowerSchool, the online portal every few days. Please Roseann Voorhees for your password so you can check your child’s grades and see if they are missing assignments.

About my class… * Hands on History! * I conduct numerous activities and simulations through the year to have your children EXPERIENCE history, not just learn about it.
