Blackboard Pilot Tasks and Walkthroughs

Bb Test Case Training Pilot with AnswersDarek Sady - 5/4/2004 Goals:  Identify problematic areas our clients may run into during a fresh install of Bb 6.1 and during an upgrade to version 6.1.  Identify where the Bb documentation (Manuals, KB Articles, Etc.) are incorrect/missing information.  Assess what issues can be resolved through existing KB articles as well as develop new articles for those problems where there currently are no posts.  Provide an opportunity for a new resource to become familiar with the install, uninstall, and upgrade of the Blackboard Learning System on the Operating System(s) the resource will support.

Task 1: Installing Blackboard Install version 6.1 on a predetermined platform (Solaris, Linux, Windows 2000, Windows 2003) as a fresh install. Install App Pack 1. Download the required guides and software from Behind the Blackboard.

Task 1: Installing Bb 6.1 This walkthrough involves a standalone Blackboard installation on a machine running Windows XP Professional – a personal instance of Blackboard. Before Blackboard can be installed, there are 3 components that must be installed (and running) on the machine. If these items are already installed and running, verify their versions and proceed to the Blackboard installation. Task 4: Course Archive, Export, Copy and Restore As instructors build and use content in Blackboard, there is often a need to move/copy content from one course to another, or from one Blackboard installation to another. In addition, as it is always a good idea to have current and complete backups, these tools allow instructors and system administrators to archive courses, and then restore those courses when and if needed. There are distinct differences between the course archive, export and copy tools. Please read the notes for more information.

Task 4: Course Export Course Export: A complete course, saved as a Blackboard-formatted ZIP file and exported as a file to a local machine. Bb Test Case Training Pilot with AnswersDarek Sady - 5/4/2004 The digital Drop Box is a file repository where students can post files to Blackboard for themselves, or for their instructor. The Drop Box has two choices for the student: “Add File” and “Send File.” Task 5: Digital Drop Box

Bb Test Case Training Pilot with AnswersDarek Sady - 5/4/2004 Task 5: Digital Drop Box  Add File: Students can upload a file to their digital Drop Box that only they have access to. This is used as an online storage area or for work in progress.  Send File: Students can upload a file directly or send a file they already uploaded (using the “Add File” feature mentioned above). Once a student sends a file, it is no longer visible in that student’s Drop Box. The file can then be seen in the instructor’s Drop Box. Once the instructor removes the file from their Drop Box, the student has access to the file once again – and can remove it.

Bb Test Case Training Pilot with AnswersDarek Sady - 5/4/2004 Task 5: Digital Drop Box To fully understand the functionality of the digital Drop Box, this walkthrough involves posting a document to the Drop Box as a student, and then accessing that document as an instructor.

Bb Test Case Training Pilot with AnswersDarek Sady - 5/4/2004 Task 5: Digital Drop Box: Posting a File as a Student 1. Create a new user and enroll that user in a course as a student. 2. Login to Blackboard as that student and access the course.

Bb Test Case Training Pilot with AnswersDarek Sady - 5/4/2004 Task 5: Digital Drop Box: Posting a File as a Student 3. Click “Tools.” 4. Click “Digital Drop Box.” 5. Click “Send File.” 6. Name the file. 7. Use to "Browse" button to select the file from your computer. 8. Fill out the comments as needed.

Bb Test Case Training Pilot with AnswersDarek Sady - 5/4/2004 Task 5: Digital Drop Box: Posting a File as a Student 9. Click “Submit.” 10. Click “OK.” 11. Check your submission details.

Bb Test Case Training Pilot with AnswersDarek Sady - 5/4/ Login to Blackboard as an instructor. 2. Click on “Control Panel.” 3. Click on “Digital Drop Box.” Task 5: Digital Drop Box: Viewing the file as an Instructor

Bb Test Case Training Pilot with AnswersDarek Sady - 5/4/2004 Task 5: Digital Drop Box: Accessing Files as an Instructor 4. View the file posting 5. The file can be accessed or removed. 6. Once the file is removed from the instructors Drop Box, the student regains the ability to remove the file from the student Drop Box.
