Amos (Yo’el - Yahweh is God) Farmer called to be a prophet (Amos 7:14) Date: Prophesied during the reign of King Uzziah of Judah (806 – 754BC), and The reign of King Jeroboam II, the son of Joash, King of Israel. Claude Lorrain (1602 – 1682) Israelites worship at the Golden Calf The Egyptians worshipped Apis the Bull. The Israelites associate the worship of the Golden Calf with the worship of YHVH. Amos condemns exploitation of the poor. Amos does not condemn excessive wealth but he condemns the enjoyment of luxuries with no consideration of the poor. Beds of ivory (Amos 6:4)
